(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of September 16th, the groundbreaking ceremony for the VSIP Nghe An Industrial, Urban, and Service Complex project took place in Hung Tay commune, Hung Nguyen district. Attending the ceremony were Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, leaders representing various ministries and central government agencies; and from Singapore, Mr. Lim Hng Kiang, Minister of Trade and Industry; Mr. Ng Teck Hean, Ambassador of Singapore to Vietnam, and their delegation.
Representing Nghe An province were: Mr. Ho Duc Phoc - Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Tran Hong Chau - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Mr. Nguyen Xuan Duong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; and representatives from provincial departments and agencies.

At the ceremony, representatives of VSIP Group stated that this is the 7th project in a series of integrated industrial park projects jointly invested by Becamex IDC and Sembcorp Development. From the first project – VSIP I in Binh Duong in 1996 – to date, VSIP integrated industrial parks have attracted numerous domestic and foreign businesses with a total investment of approximately US$6.3 billion.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung highlighted the successes of Vietnam-Singapore cooperation projects in general, and the VSIP project in particular. He highly appreciated VSIP's choice of Nghe An as its next destination and expressed confidence that the investor would make a significant impact, as it had done with the previous six VSIP projects across the country. This choice also demonstrates the development potential and attractiveness of Nghe An – the birthplace of President Ho Chi Minh – on its path to industrialization and modernization.

Mr. Lim Hng Kiang, Minister of Trade and Industry of Singapore, expressed his agreement with the Prime Minister's views and emphasized that one of the great benefits of the VSIP project is the increasingly strong cooperative relationship between the two corporations and the two provinces in particular, and the strategic partnership between the two countries in general. Singapore hopes that the VSIPs will continue to develop, contributing to strengthening friendship, deepening cooperation, and bringing growth and opportunities to both sides.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Sembcorp and VSIP Joint Venture Corporation also committed to sponsoring US$100,000 to develop the Sembcorp - VSIP clean water project in Nghe An province. This community project was first implemented in Quang Ngai province in 2013. Currently, the project has completed the construction of 10 water filtration systems with clean water filters to meet the daily clean water needs of students and local residents. In addition, the project has upgraded and built new toilets at 7 schools.
