Con Co Island, about 30 km from the mainland, is an outpost island, which is significant in terms of both socio-economic development and national security and defense. In previous years, Quang Tri province built Hoa Phong Ba kindergarten to meet the learning needs of children on the island.
However, the storms at the end of 2013 destroyed the Hoa Phong Ba kindergarten, making it impossible to study. All teachers and students had to move their classes to a different location. On the other hand, because there was no primary school or class, all students on the island had to leave their families and go to the mainland to stay with their grandparents and uncles to continue their higher education. This caused many difficulties in taking care of children going to school as well as disrupting the lives of the islanders.

Children on Con Co Island. |
Responding to Vietnam Sea and Island Week and meeting the legitimate learning needs of children on Con Co Island, the Ministry of Education and Training is implementing the construction of a school on the island. The school will be built in several phases, depending on the number and age of students. In particular, the immediate phase will build a kindergarten classroom, a primary school room, a dining area, a public house... with an amount of socialized education funds of nearly five billion VND...
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Minister of Education and Training Pham Vu Luan said that in the immediate future, Hoa Phong Ba Kindergarten and Primary School will be built. When there are secondary school students and the next levels of education, we will calculate to have a school for students to have a long-term and sustainable relationship with the sea and islands, with the land of Con Co. On the other hand, the school aims to help parents feel secure in their labor and production, maintain the border and nurture and care for their children's education. The school is expected to be completed and put into use in the new school year 2014 - 2015. Because the school is built on a special island area, the school model on the island may not be as usual, but teachers will be arranged and the school will be organized flexibly to suit the reality so that all children can study right on the island, with their parents.
