(Baonghean.vn) - 77 years ago, on September 27, 1940, at the Bac Son base, our army and people carried out the battle at Mo Nhai fort, opening the first armed uprising of the Vietnamese revolution led by the Party.

On September 22, 1940, Japanese fascists crossed the Sino-Vietnamese border to attack Lang Son, and at the same time sent more than 4,000 troops to land in Do Son (Hai Phong) by sea. The remaining French troops retreated by land through Diem He, Binh Gia, Bac Son to Thai Nguyen. Wherever they went, they tried their best to rob and kill our people, making the people hate them to the extreme, determined to rise up and kill the enemy, and seize power for themselves.

On September 25, 1940, a number of party members who had just escaped from Lang Son prison returned to their locality. Among them were comrades Nong Van Cun, Hoang Dinh Rue, and Duong Van Thuc. On the night of September 26, 1940, these comrades met and discussed with a number of party members of Hung Vu commune cell.

At the meeting, comrades Duong Cong Binh and Hoang Van Han in Nong Luc village, Hung Vu commune, assessed that the opportunity to mobilize the revolutionary masses to rise up in armed uprising had come.

On the morning of September 27, 1940, a meeting convened by the Party cell agreed on the uprising policies and mobilized the masses to carry out an armed uprising. At the same time, the people organized themselves to collect weapons and disarm individual troops to arm themselves.

The Party cell determined that the revolutionary force was the masses. The uprising command committee was quickly established, including comrades Hoang Van Han, Duong Cong Binh, Hoang Dinh Rue, Duong Van Thuc, Nong Van Cun, with comrade Hoang Van Han as commander. The first attack location was chosen as Mo Nhai post, Bac Son district.

On September 27, 1940, the self-defense force organized an ambush for the French troops retreating to Thai Nguyen at Canh Tiem Pass, killing one enemy and capturing some of their equipment and guns. At 8:30 p.m. on September 27, 1940, 600 insurgents of the Tay, Nung, Dao, Hoa and Kinh ethnic groups under the direction of the Hung Vu Commune Communist Party cell attacked Mo Nhai post.

After the lightning attack, the insurgents captured Mo Nhai fort, the French soldiers fled in panic, and the ruling government collapsed. After capturing the district capital, the uprising command declared the abolition of the puppet government set up by the imperialists and ordered the burning of enemy books.

On September 28 and 29, 1940, the insurgents continued to attack the remnants of the French army at Canh Tiem and Sap Di passes. Faced with that situation, France and Japan reached an agreement to focus on suppressing the uprising. The French colonialists sent troops to retake the forts and violently suppressed the people. Immediately after receiving news of the outbreak of the uprising, the Northern Regional Party Committee sent comrade Tran Dang Ninh to directly lead the movement and direct the uprising towards the goal of building forces for long-term fighting.

On October 13, 1940, a meeting in Tan Huong forest decided to establish the first Bac Son guerrilla unit. On October 28, 1940, the revolutionary masses were holding a rally in Vu Lang, preparing to retake Mo Nhai station when they were attacked by the French. The insurgents retreated to the Bac Son (Lang Son) and Vo Nhai (Thai Nguyen) areas.

The Bac Son uprising lasted less than a month, but it provided valuable experience for our Party's leadership of the Vietnamese revolution. The 7th Central Party Conference decided to maintain the Bac Son armed forces as military capital for future uprisings, as well as build the Bac Son - Vo Nhai base center as a support for armed struggle.

The Bac Son uprising is a brilliant milestone in the patriotism and determination of our people to fight against foreign invaders, demonstrating the creativity and strategic talent in directing armed uprising and revolutionary war of the Party.

Under the leadership of the Party, the Bac Son Guerrilla Team grew steadily, making an important contribution to the construction of the liberated zone before the General Uprising in 1945. Later, the Bac Son Guerrilla Team was changed to the Bac Son National Salvation Army, the predecessor of the Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army.

The 77th anniversary of the Bac Son uprising is also an occasion for the whole country to celebrate the 73rd anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2017). Our cadres, soldiers and people always promote the revolutionary tradition, national pride, self-esteem, the will of independence, self-reliance, the spirit of uprising, and the tradition of great national unity in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.

77 years have passed, the Bac Son uprising will forever be a shining historical milestone, a source of great spiritual strength to encourage and motivate us to constantly strive, work hard, and contribute more intelligence to the cause of innovation, building an increasingly rich and civilized country./.
