(Baonghean.vn) - Starting a business is not a new concept. However, for young people, "starting a business" is not easy if they are not equipped with knowledge, skills and experience.

Answering these questions is also the goal of the speaker, Dr., CEO Vo Van Thanh Nghia with more than 1,000 students in Nghe An province at Vinh University of Industry. This is also the school where Dr. Vo Van Thanh Nghia is coordinating to implement many practical startup activities in his role as an advisor to the Board of Directors.

If you want to start a successful business, start by working for someone else.

There are many reasons why Dr. Vo Van Thanh Nghia came to this program and chose to share with young people, students who are about to graduate: In the past, when I was the General Director of Thien Long Group, I and other students volunteered to accompany the students in their first days at university. And now, at the threshold of life, I want to share with students a start-up story drawn from my own experiences, successes and failures.

Failure is also the first thing that Dr. Vo Van Thanh Nghia mentioned in the story of starting a business. However, this is also the reason why he wants young people to make their own decisions before starting a business and not to have "illusions": If we keep talking about failure, we will surely feel "scared" before starting a business. But if we only see it as rosy, and then fail, it is even more worrying. He also said: Even though there is advice, when you are over 20 years old, you are "decent and mature" then you have to make your own decisions.

With the above trust, Dr. Vo Van Thanh Nghia also requires young people to answer the question "who am I". And to do that, first of all, each person must look at their own personality. Second, they must have the ability. But "ability" does not mean doing everything, but must have a team. For example, he said: A person who is good at medicine can create machines that are beneficial to health. But, to be successful, to bring the product to market, there must be someone to do marketing, someone to calculate.

From "knowing who you are, what you want, what you need", the former CEO of Thien Long Group also advised young people to boldly "try" when deciding to start a business. However, to start a business successfully, he also advised people not to confuse "doing what you like and mistakenly thinking that it is starting a business". What is special, although encouraging starting a business, to realize this dream, he advised everyone to start from "working for hire" because the biggest limitation of new graduates is experience. He also frankly pointed out that: Currently, there is a situation where many young people go to school only wanting to be officials, soldiers for fear of shame. But, if you do not work as a worker, how can you be a foreman, become a deputy director and become a general director. In reality, "if you want to start a business, you have to take it slow, there must be a process. You have to know what you need and the right time. If you do not have the opportunity, wait and believe that starting a business has no age".

+ Answering the students' questions, Dr. Vo Van Thanh Nghia said: Saying that starting a business without going to university is a big mistake. But learning and successfully applying it depends on yourself, not on school or class. In fact, there are many cases where people are talented but do not work hard, so it is difficult to succeed.

+ In starting a business, he also said that there are many challenges. However, at different times, the challenges will be different. For example, in the early stages of starting a business, the biggest challenge is not money but your idea. When turning an idea into reality, you need money. When you have money, the challenge is human resources. He also advised young people: Try not to see which is the biggest challenge, but always think that everything is a challenge to avoid being subjective.

+ Regarding the issue of working for hire, he believes that students must work for hire when they graduate from university. This has many benefits, does not require capital but has time to accumulate experience. But when will the accumulation be enough and someone will take away your creativity?

Besides, young people, never be afraid of losing opportunities. In fact, the only thing you are afraid of is losing yourself, there are opportunities all around us. Never be afraid of your ideas or others doing them. Look at what others are doing and think that you can do it better.

Connecting opportunities

Since the beginning of 2018, this is the second time that Dr. Vo Van Thanh Nghia has come to Vinh University of Industry (IUV). According to him, this return is to fulfill three promises to the former First Secretary of the Central Youth Union and now Secretary of Nghe An Provincial Party Committee, and to Mr. Tran Le Dung - Chairman of the Board of Directors of the school to fulfill his wish of "doing whatever he can for society and the community". Finally, he came to the school, to the young people in his hometown of Nghe An, because of a promise "for me personally, my responsibility and the way for me to serve the country".

Coming and sharing experiences and failures to help children succeed, “sustainable success” is also his regular task today, especially in his position as the head of VAL Making – a business specializing in supporting, consulting businesses and serving society.

Previously, at the signing ceremony of the cooperation program "Supporting Youth Entrepreneurship" for the period 2017-2020 between the Center for Supporting Youth Entrepreneurship (Vietnam Youth Union) and VAL Making, he also affirmed: We will help young people maintain and develop their ideas, not just stop at financial investment. The Chairman of VAL Making also said that the capital that the Program supports young people is guaranteed by many prestigious venture capital funds and angel investment funds around the world.

Notably, up to this point, Vinh University of Industry is the first private university in Vinh city, together with the Provincial Youth Union, Department of Science and Technology and VAL Making, to organize a consultation session for final year university and college students on this "hot" issue.

In his role as a connector and advisor to the board of directors, Dr. Vo Van Thanh Nghia will also have his own plans to care for final year students and commit to creating an environment, conditions and other factors to promote and support students in the process of starting a business and innovating.

Talking about this activity, Mr. Tran Manh Ha - Acting Principal of Vinh University of Industry also affirmed: Although the time of operation is not long, IUV always cares about the future of students, demonstrated through training in job application skills, working skills at businesses, supporting job referrals for students after graduation, etc. In particular, IUV creates an incubator to support the province's startup activities right on campus through providing offices and other related working conditions.

-In the 2018-2019 school year, Vinh University of Industry enrolls 900 students in 10 training majors using two admission methods:

+ Use the results of the National High School Exam with a combination of subjects that meet the input quality assurance threshold according to the regulations of Vinh University of Industry;

+ Consideration of academic records for candidates who graduated from high school from 2017 or earlier and will graduate from high school in 2018 according to the following 2 forms of admission: Average score of the combination of subjects of grade 10; grade 11 and grade 12 or average score of the combination of subjects for grade 12 admission that meets the requirements.

-Currently, Vinh University of Industry also has practical training programs, helping students meet the requirements of businesses in the fields of electricity/electronics, accounting, IT, tourism... In addition, the school also regularly organizes events to help students access future jobs at businesses through internships/visits, participating in job fairs co-organized by IUV with units and departments in the region...

In addition, Vinh University of Industry is one of 8 universities in Vietnam participating in the project to strengthen the Vietnamese higher education system to improve working skills and business skills for students after graduation (Project V2WORK). The purpose of the project is to build a job introduction center to support students after graduation, ensuring 100% of students have stable jobs with the support of the Council of European Universities.
