Mr. Ho Viet Son - Chairman of the People's Committee of Thach Giam town said: The greenhouse vegetable growing model in Phong village was built by a household in the village since 2016, the area of land for greenhouse is over 2,000m22rented from the village community. This model is partially funded by the State to build infrastructure.

However, the production was not effective, so the owner of the greenhouse had to sell this model to someone else. For many years, this greenhouse was abandoned and wasted. The People's Committee of Thach Giam town "negotiated" with the greenhouse owner to lend the infrastructure to local households to restore and rebuild the greenhouse.
After the People's Committee of Thach Giam town mobilized, in March 2024, two households, Ms. Vi Thi Giang and Mr. Vi Van Hoang, both in Phong village, asked to restore the greenhouse vegetable growing model.

Visiting the greenhouse vegetable growing model in Phong village, I saw the greenhouse garden covered in green with cucumbers, watermelons and other vegetables.
Ms. Vi Thi Giang is taking care of the plants in the greenhouse and shares: Before receiving the greenhouse garden, we went to the field to research and find out the reason why the previous greenhouse was not effective was because the soil quality was not good enough to grow plants, especially the unstable irrigation water source leading to failure.

Therefore, since March 2024, when we received the handover of the greenhouse, we have invested money to renovate the damaged greenhouse system. In particular, we bought a water pipe over 1,500 meters long to get water from the stream and bought a pump system to irrigate the greenhouse.
Next, we must focus on improving the quality of the soil in the greenhouse, specifically going to Con Cuong district to buy Lam River alluvial soil and humus soil to spread on the surface of the greenhouse. Along with that, we must collect all kinds of manure from the people to make organic fertilizer for the plants grown in the greenhouse.
After the restoration and renovation were completed, from April 2024, we started planting two main crops: watermelon and cucumber. Thanks to proper care according to technical procedures and drip irrigation, the crops grew well.

Ms. Vi Thi Giang shared more: The family has over 200 cucumber plants and over 1,000 watermelon plants. Although this is just a trial planting, the plants are growing very well, flowering evenly and bearing large fruits. The fruit set rate is over 90%. It is expected to be harvested in about 2 weeks. There is no need to worry about consumption because growing in a greenhouse in an organic direction produces clean products that meet the needs of local people.
Currently we are continuing to experiment with growing melon and "trick melon" varieties to diversify our products.

Mr. Ho Viet Son added: The restoration of long-abandoned greenhouses by local people will avoid waste. The initial effectiveness of the model will motivate local people to boldly invest in applying high technology in local agricultural production, increasing their income.
