In the bright golden autumn sunshine, we visited Chinh Vi Temple in Nghi Xuan commune (Nghi Loc district), a national historical site associated with the struggle for power during the August Revolution (1945). The history of Nghi Xuan commune records the events at Chinh Vi Temple: "On August 15, 1945, the Nghe Tinh Uprising Committee issued the order for the uprising; on August 25, the district Viet Minh and the Viet Minh of various communes mobilized the people to hold a rally at Quan Market (Nghi Hoa) to listen to speeches. The people of Song Loc and Tan Hop (now Nghi Xuan commune) along with the people of other communes rallied in response… On the morning of August 26, the people of Song Loc and Tan Hop marched to the district headquarters to seize power. Also on August 26, at Chinh Vi Temple, the people of the villages gathered for a rally to seize power. A provisional revolutionary committee was established with Mr. Tran Van Nhi as Chairman and Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tri as Vice Chairman. This was the first unit to seize power in Nghi Loc district."

The uprising to seize power by the people of Song Loc and Tan Hop was the result of a difficult struggle and sacrifice by the people, of national unity, and of experience gained from revolutionary movements led by the Party, seizing the right situation and opportunity quickly to return power to the people.

Over the past 79 years, all aspects of life in Nghi Xuan commune have undergone significant changes. The average income is currently 63 million VND per person per year, and the commune has been recognized as achieving advanced new rural standards and is in the process of building a model new rural area. Upon arriving in Nghi Xuan, the most striking impression is the bustling roads and the rows of modern, well-built houses, giving the countryside a new look. The commune has three major roads running through it: the Vinh - Cua Lo Boulevard, the Vinh - Cua Hoi road, and the road along the Lam River, along with many upgraded and expanded branch roads. This transportation system has facilitated economic trade, expanded production and business, and increased income for the locality.

Previously, the people of Nghi Xuan commune had only two main occupations: agriculture and fishing, resulting in rather unstable incomes. The process of reform and integration has helped the people diversify their occupations; alongside traditional trades, new professions in the fields of industry, services, and commerce have emerged. This has led to the development of high-income economic models and job creation for workers.

Following Mr. Pham Dinh Hai, Vice Chairman of the Nghi Xuan Commune People's Committee, we visited Xuan Tinh Garment Company, owned by Mr. Dao Van Hien, in Thien Dong hamlet. The factory, spanning thousands of square meters, employs 120 workers and utilizes a modern system of machinery and equipment operating day and night, specializing in the production and processing of garments for export to the US and European markets. The company's greatest contribution is providing employment for a significant number of local workers, with salaries ranging from 7 to 9 million VND per person per month. Alongside Xuan Tinh Garment Company, Hoang Nguyen Forestry Products Processing and Trading Company in Loc My hamlet also employs dozens of workers with salaries exceeding 10 million VND per month, contributing to improved income for local residents.

Building upon the revolutionary traditions of their homeland and the achievements of recent years, the officials and people of Nghi Xuan commune are aiming to build a model new rural area, contributing to accelerating the progress and improving the quality of the advanced new rural development movement throughout the province. The appearance of the new rural area is becoming increasingly spacious, truly bright, green, clean, and beautiful, and the quality of life for the people is improving day by day.

From Nghi Xuan commune, we continued north to Hung Nguyen district and stopped in Long Xa commune, a locality with a vibrant revolutionary struggle. According to local history, during the Nghe Tinh Soviet Uprising, the people of Phu Long rose up strongly, with thousands participating in a demonstration in Thai Lao on September 12, 1930.

During the August Revolution, on August 19, 1945, under the leadership of the Viet Minh Front, people from villages and hamlets flocked to the assembly point, with red flags bearing yellow stars fluttering in the wind. The demonstration group from Phu Long commune joined the crowds from other districts of Hung Nguyen prefecture, marching to occupy the prefectural office and forcing the prefect Nguyen Tien Don to surrender unconditionally.

Having weathered many ups and downs, the village of Long Xa today has become prosperous, with its grid-like road network paved with asphalt and concrete, and its houses built in a modern style. The summer-autumn rice fields are now ablaze with golden hues, promising a bountiful harvest. On the riverbanks, herds of buffalo and cattle graze peacefully, adding to the tranquil atmosphere of this affluent countryside.

Long Xa commune is currently divided into 8 hamlets with nearly 9,600 inhabitants. The main source of income for the people is still from farming and livestock breeding, with an average income. In addition, there are some traditional crafts such as noodle and cake making (recognized as a craft village), carpentry, rattan and bamboo weaving, and recently many households have taken up mechanical engineering, forest product processing, and various service businesses… In the first 6 months of 2024, the total production value of Long Xa commune reached 221.039 billion VND (reaching 59.5% of the annual plan), the economic structure is shifting in the right direction, and industries, services, and small-scale construction are growing rapidly.

As a rural area rich in cultural traditions, Long Xa commune has always prioritized promoting education and nurturing talent. The commune has nearly 2,200 students at all levels, with over 100 achieving the title of excellent student at various levels. Basic facilities, equipment, and teaching materials are readily available, and all schools maintain their national standard status.

"

Thanks to leveraging its advantageous land, soil, and convenient transportation, the overall living standards in Long Xa commune have improved significantly in recent years. Currently, officials and people throughout the commune are striving to achieve even more accomplishments in socio-economic development, with the immediate goal of meeting the criteria for a model new rural area by 2025, in order to live up to the traditions of their homeland.

Besides Nghi Xuan and Long Xa communes, there are many other rural areas that "led the way" in the revolutionary movement and achieved outstanding results in the renovation process, such as Nam Thanh commune (Nam Dan district), Vo Liet commune (Thanh Chuong district), Phuc Son commune (Anh Son district), and Mon Son commune (Con Cuong district)..., contributing to creating "bright spots" in the construction and development of their homeland.
