Attack the "knights" group to escape

Accordingly, Nguyen Tan Tai (aka Tai “mun”) and Nguyen Hoang Chau Phu were prosecuted for theft and murder. Defendant Ngo Van Hung was prosecuted for concealing a criminal.

The personal records of the defendants determined that Tai "mun" had a previous conviction for theft and a previous conviction for gambling, Phu had a previous conviction for theft, and Hung had a previous conviction for robbery.

The police determined that Tai and Phu were professional car thieves. On the evening of May 13, when committing the crime, Tai directly used a knife to attack, causing casualties to 5 "knights". Phu did not use a weapon to attack the victims but participated as an active accomplice.

According to the police, the "knights" group of Tan Binh district, led by Mr. Tran Van Hoang, clearly knew the whereabouts and true identity of the Tai "Mun" group, which specializes in stealing motorbikes in many areas, so they followed and stalked them on the streets many times.

At around 8:00 p.m. on May 13, a member of the “knight” group driving in the Bac Hai residential area (District 10) discovered Phu carrying Tai on an Exciter. Suspecting that the two were on their way to steal a motorbike, the “knight” called other members to come and help.

When arriving in front of the fashion store at 348C Cach Mang Thang Tam (Ward 10, District 3), discovering the SH parked on the sidewalk with no one watching, Tai "mun" quickly used a knife to break the lock, pushed the SH onto the street, and was about to start the SH when 7 members of the Tan Binh "knights" group rushed in, surrounded and arrested him.

Knowing he was being surrounded and captured, Tai pulled out a knife and attacked, seriously injuring 5 "knights" and then abandoned the SH and Phu to escape towards the Dan Chu intersection.

Arrested 10 hours after committing the crime

Immediately after the incident, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department directed the police of 24 districts in the area to join in supporting the investigation. Two Deputy Directors of Ho Chi Minh City Police Department directly directed the investigation.

That very night, hundreds of detectives spread out to the districts to find the smallest clues about the perpetrators. The female deputy head of District 3 Police quickly determined the connection between the perpetrators and those previously arrested in Tan Binh District, District 12, and Hoc Mon District, so she extracted the suspects for questioning, from which clues about the group of perpetrators were revealed.

The very next morning, Nguyen Hoang Chau Phu was summoned for questioning but Phu did not admit it. Late that night, the detectives quickly determined that Tai “Mun” was hiding at Hung’s house in Ward 9, Go Vap District, so they surrounded and arrested him, taking Hung and his wife to the police station for questioning.

The police also seized the Exciter motorbike that Tai and Phu used to commit the crime, which had blood stains from many victims, and a pair of shorts Phu wore when he stole the motorbike.

Police determined that Hung's wife met Tai through social media, and then Tai and Hung gradually became close.

On the night of the crime, after escaping from the scene, Tai and Phu fled towards Go Vap and then parted ways, Phu fled to Hoc Mon. At around 1am on May 14, Tai called Hung to say he was “coming to the house for something”. About 15 minutes later, Tai arrived on his motorbike and told Hung and his wife that he would stay for a few days.

Then Tai borrowed Hung's wife's phone to check the news online. When he saw Tai was worried, Hung asked her, and she said she "went out with friends".

Police determined that Hung knew about Tai's crime but did not report it to the police, but carefully calculated to conceal the crime from the surrounding people.

The police are continuing to clarify a number of people involved in this shocking case for handling.
