Prosecuted 28 subjects for destroying nearly 400 hectares of forest
28 people were arrested on charges of destroying hundreds of hectares of natural forest to make way for farming.
According to news from the People's Procuracy of Dak Lak province on May 22, the Procuracy approved the decision to prosecute the accused, the orderdetention28 subjects residing in the communes of Ya To Mot, Ia Rve, Ea Le, Ea Sup district, Dak Lak province to investigate and handle the act of "Forest destruction".
This is the group of subjects initially identified by the authorities as having participated in the destruction of more than 382 hectares of forest in Ya To Mot commune, Ea Sup district, Dak Lak province. In addition to the 28 defendants who have just been prosecuted and temporarily detained, the authorities are continuing to expand the investigation and search for other related subjects.

According to the initial investigation results, the Dak Lak Provincial Forest Protection Department received information from Dat Vang Ban Me Company Limited and the Forest Protection Department of Region 4 about a large-scale deforestation case in Ya To Mot Commune, Ea Sup District. Upon receiving the report, the Provincial Police Investigation Agency, the Provincial People's Procuracy, the criminal technical force, the forest protection force, and the local authorities conducted a crime scene investigation. Initially, the area with signs of forest encroachment was determined to be 382.07 hectares located in Sub-area 205, managed by the People's Committee of Ya To Mot Commune and Sub-area 222, managed and protected by Duc Tam Company Limited.
Regarding the incident, on April 12, the Dak Lak Provincial Police Department initiated a case of "Forest Destruction" and has so far identified 28 related subjects. At the investigation agency, the subjects initially admitted their illegal acts. The case is being further investigated and strictly handled according to the provisions of the law.
