Prosecuted 3 couples for helping commune officials profit from project land
To get the commission, 3 couples had their names on the red book so that commune officials could embezzle compensation money for land clearance of the project.
On the afternoon of August 31, information from the Dak Lak Provincial People's Procuracy said that the unit had issued a decision to prosecute and ban 6 subjects from leaving their place of residence to clarify the act of abusing their positions and powers while performing official duties.
Accordingly, the 6 people prosecuted include: Mr. Y Thoai Byă (57 years old), his wife Mrs. H'Blút Nie (52 years old); Mr. Y Thiên K'tla (57 years old), his wife Mrs. H'Nút Byă (54 years old); and Mr. Y Wem Byă (48 years old), his wife Mrs. H'Nị Nie (52 years old).

Initially, the investigation agency determined that Mr. Y Thoai Byă and his wife had assisted the defendants Hoang Trong Nghia and Le Son (former cadastral officers of Cu Elang commune) to register their names on plot number 29, map number 13 to appropriate nearly 1.2 billion VND. With this amount of money, Mr. Y Thoai and his wife were "compensated" 300 million VND.
Mr. Y Thien K'tla and his wife helped the defendant Le Thanh Nguyen (former cadastral officer of Cu Elang commune) to register land plot number 34, map sheet 13 in his name to appropriate 1.1 billion VND. After finishing the job, Mr. Y Thien and his wife "enjoyed" 36 million VND.
As for Mr. Y Vem Byă and his wife, they let the defendants Hoang Trong Nghia and Le Son own land plot number 24, map number 13, appropriating more than 1.2 billion VND. Afterwards, Mr. Y Vem and his wife were "compensated" 185 million VND.
These officials of Cu Elang commune were prosecuted and detained by the authorities in August 2018 for the act of Abusing position and power while performing official duties.
In June 2019, in relation to this incident, Dak Lak Provincial Police prosecuted Mr. Do Van Huu (Chairman of Cu Elang Commune People's Committee) to investigate the acts of Abusing position and power while performing official duties and Lack of responsibility causing serious consequences.
The Krong Pak Thuong Reservoir Project has a total investment of over 4,400 billion VND. At the end of 2012, the Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee approved and implemented compensation and support for the project's resettlement area.
During the process of compensating for land recovery and handing over land for site clearance, officials of Cu Elang commune asked ethnic minority people to stand in their names on the red books of land in the project in order to appropriate compensation money.
