Prosecution and temporary detention of son and wife who abused elderly mother
Mr. Vo Quoc Tuan and his wife were prosecuted and detained for acts of violence while taking care of their mother, Ms. Vo Thi Dung.
On the morning of February 29, Cho Gao District Police (Tien Giang) decided to prosecute the case and prosecute the accused for the act of "Abusing, torturing grandparents, parents, spouses, children or people who have raised you" according to Article 185 of the 2015 Penal Code, temporarily detaining for investigation and clarification the couple Vo Quoc Tuan (born in 1964), the biological son, and Pham Thi Loan (born in 1963), the daughter-in-law of the victim, residing in An Khuong Hamlet, An Thanh Thuy Commune, Cho Gao District, for the act of violence while taking care of their mother, Vo Thi Dung (born in 1932) at home, at the above address.

The incident is summarized as follows: According to the report of the Chairman of the People's Committee of An Thanh Thuy Commune, Nguyen Van Long, Ms. Vo Thi Dung has 3 children including 1 boy and 2 girls. Previously, Ms. Dung lived with her grandson, Vo Hung Tan.
In 2018, Mr. Tan died. His biological son Vo Quoc Tuan and his daughter-in-law Pham Thi Loan moved in with Mrs. Dung. Because Mrs. Dung was old, sometimes remembered and sometimes forgot, and could not take care of herself, her personal life was not according to the wishes of her son and his wife.
Therefore, during the process of raising and caring for her, Mr. Tuan and Ms. Loan abused, mistreated, often cursed and brutally beat Ms. Vo Thi Dung.

The incident came to light when Ms. Dung’s daughter, Vo Thi Kim Phuong, born in 1973, residing in An Tho hamlet, An Thanh Thuy commune, extracted the camera footage and reported it. In response to the incident that caused public outrage, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Cho Gao district, Le Van My, directed relevant agencies to investigate and strictly handle the case according to the law to serve as a deterrent.
Cho Gao District Police have investigated, collected and consolidated evidence, and taken steps to handle the case according to regulations.
