Man infected with HIV charged with slitting hostage's throat in Nghe An.

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of April 26, Lieutenant Colonel Tran Van Khang (Deputy Head of Dien Chau District Police, Nghe An province) stated that the investigative agency had issued a decision to prosecute and detain Chu Van Son (35 years old, residing in Dien Bich commune) for the crime of illegal detention.

According to the police, Sơn is being investigated for unlawful detention for holding Mr. Quảng hostage with a knife and scissors, forcing him to drive them around in the hot sun for many hours.

Son was diagnosed with HIV and has six prior convictions for crimes including theft, intentional infliction of injury, and public disorder.

Previously, as reported by Nghe An Newspaper, at around 9:00 AM on April 17th, Son, under the influence of drugs, threatened passersby with a knife and scissors. Despite the pleas and persuasion of the police and some relatives, Son held his cousin, Nguyen Van Quang (34 years old), hostage and forced another passerby to hand over their motorbike.

Son forced Quang to wear only shorts while driving him through various streets... Son sat with a knife to the hostage's neck, threatening to use force if he didn't obey.

After more than three hours of driving under the scorching sun, Son requested to return home to rest. While Son was asking to smoke a pipe, police officer Nguyen Van Diep cleverly "attacked," causing him to drop his weapon and safely rescuing the hostage.

Mr. Quang suffered a long knife wound requiring 6 stitches, along with dozens of other scratches on his neck. When rescued, he was exhausted and unconscious, and subsequently took medication to prevent HIV exposure.

Son's father said that three days before the crime, he noticed his son exhibiting unusual behavior, muttering incoherently, and rarely sitting still. When Son held Quang hostage, he followed along but was powerless after "saying everything, crying and begging them to release the hostage." Son even told his father, "Who are you? I don't know anyone..."

Mr. Bao said that Son has been addicted to drugs for over 10 years and has repeatedly violated the law. Now, he only hopes that the authorities will educate his son to quit drugs, understand the value of life, and work hard to rebuild his life to help his wife raise their three children who are of school age.
