Prosecution of the rapist and murderer of the neighbor's 5-year-old girl
The police investigation agency has prosecuted and temporarily detained defendant Pham Van Dung on two charges of murder and rape of a person under 16 years old.
Colonel Nguyen Van Thoi, Deputy Director of Ba Ria - Vung Tau Police, provided information to the press.
Pham Van Dung, born in 1975, is a neighbor of the victim and is acquainted with the family. At around 5:30 p.m. on April 17, Dung walked to Mr. Nguyen Truc Anh's house to attend a memorial service (in the same alley). At around 8:00 p.m., Dung walked home. Seeing the house locked, Dung knew his wife was attending a birthday party at her mother's house, so he walked over to attend the party.

On the way, Dung discovered that N. and L. (N.'s nephew) were following him. Dung had the intention of sexually assaulting N. Dung stood at the cemetery gate waiting for N. to come, then carried N. to the sand mound next to the soccer field and put N. down. When N. screamed, Dung was afraid that someone would find out, so he strangled N. and sexually assaulted her with his hands before leaving.
The autopsy results showed that N. was strangled to death and sexually assaulted. At the scene, the authorities seized a pair of red slippers belonging to the victim.
Colonel Nguyen Van Thoi, Deputy Director of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Provincial Police, said: "Mr. Dung lives in the same neighborhood as N., so of course he is acquainted with the victim's family. Up to this point, the Investigation Police Agency, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Provincial Police have prosecuted and temporarily detained the suspect for two crimes: Murder andRapepeople under 16 years old. The People's Procuracy of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province also approved these decisions".
