According to the police, about 23 years ago, Nguyen Van Tuan married Ms. Bui Thi Huong (in the same commune). After giving birth and due to economic difficulties, Ms. Huong went to work abroad. When she went to work abroad, Ms. Huong was supported by Ms. Hue's family with 10 million VND to go to Taiwan to work. After working for about 2 years in a foreign land, Ms. Huong sent money back to her father-in-law to pay off Ms. Hue's debt.
Around 2006, Tuan and his wife filed for divorce. Huong returned to Taiwan to continue working, while Tuan left his hometown to live in the South. In early 2014, the 42-year-old man returned to his hometown to live with his mother, unemployed.
After committing the murder and being arrested by the police, Tuan claimed that Ms. Hue had borrowed the 10 million VND from him, so he came to collect it many times. But Tuan forced his ex-wife's sister to pay back 30 million VND, including the principal and interest for many years.
Regarding the murder of the suspect Tuan, Lieutenant Colonel Dang Viet Nghi - Captain of the Major Crimes Team - Criminal Police Department - Thai Binh Provincial Police said: "Investigating the case, the police determined that on the morning of August 10, Tuan went to Bong market, Vu Thu district, Thai Binh province to buy a kitchen knife and then hitchhiked a motorbike to Thai Binh city, nearly 10 km away.
That evening, Tuan wandered around and slept on a bench at the provincial general hospital overnight. At noon the next day, the perpetrator went to the park area in the center of Thai Binh city, Thai Binh province, to play chess with the locals.
At around 2:00 p.m. on August 11, the suspect walked to Ms. Hue's house on Ly Bon Street, Tran Lam Ward, Thai Binh City, Thai Binh Province. He met his ex-wife's sister who was selling goods on the first floor and continued to ask for money. After an argument, Tuan suddenly pulled out a knife and stabbed the 38-year-old victim repeatedly.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Nghi, at that time, Mrs. Tinh saw her daughter collapse and ran outside shouting. Immediately after that, this cold-blooded killer ran after his ex-mother-in-law and murdered her. Not stopping there, right after killing his ex-mother-in-law, Tuan took a knife and went back into the house to stab Ms. Hue in the back before throwing the weapon away, walking out onto the street and being held back by the people.
Confessing to the police, Tuan admitted to the murder and expressed remorse. At the time of the incident, Ms. Hue's two children were on the third floor and were lucky to escape. The 42-year-old suspect's actions were very reckless. The serious crime occurred in the city center, with a large population, causing panic. This is a typical case that will be investigated, prosecuted and tried as soon as possible to reassure public opinion.
