Prosecution of Deputy Military Commander of Commune for Robbing 20 Million Dong

On May 28, Vinh Linh District Police (Quang Tri) announced that they had just issued a decision to prosecute and temporarily detain suspect Nguyen Viet Phong, 34 years old, residing in Vinh Thach Commune, Vinh Linh District, holding the position of Deputy Head of Vinh Thach Commune Military Command to investigate the act of robbery.

Previously, at around 0:15 on May 2, a person broke into the house of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thon, 71 years old, residing in An Dong village, Vinh Thach commune, Vinh Linh district, then strangled Mrs. Thon until she fainted, then broke into the cabinet and took away 20 million VND. It is known that this was the amount of money Mrs. Thon saved to repair the house.

After nearly a month of investigation, Vinh Linh District Police identified Nguyen Viet Phong as the suspect in the robbery and issued an emergency arrest warrant. At the investigation agency headquarters, Phong confessed to his crime.

Regarding the incident, the People's Committee of Vinh Thach commune said that this agency is making a report to the Military Command of Vinh Linh district to dismiss Nguyen Viet Phong from the position of Deputy Military Command of the commune.
