Prosecuted and detained 2 subjects trafficking more than 2,800 kg of pangolin scales
(Baonghean.vn) - The Investigation Police Agency of Nghe An Province Police said it has just initiated a case, prosecuted the accused, and issued an order to temporarily detain Ho Van Manh and Tran Thi Ngoc, both residing in Do Thanh Commune, Yen Thanh District, for the crimes of "Violating regulations on the protection of endangered, precious, and rare animals" and "Trading in prohibited goods".

Previously, on October 24, 2023, at Ngoc Son hamlet, Do Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, the Department of Police Investigation of Economic Crimes, Corruption, Smuggling, and Environmental Crimes (Provincial Police) coordinated with Do Thanh Commune Police, Yen Thanh district to inspect and discover two subjects Ho Van Manh (born in 1988) and Tran Thi Ngoc (born in 1968), both residing in Do Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, storing 110 sacks of various types containing pangolin scales with a total weight of 2,846 kg, worth more than 14 billion VND.

At the time of inspection, the two subjects could not present documents related to the origin of the above goods.

Through investigation, Manh confessed to buying pangolin scales from abroad and hiding them at Tran Thi Ngoc's house, then sorting and cleaning them with the intention of selling them for profit.
Currently, the case is under further investigation and clarification.
