While illegally dumping 123 tons of slag from an aluminum furnace onto the land behind the furnace, the company was caught red-handed and prosecuted by authorities.
On March 31, Bac Ninh Provincial Police announced that the Department of Investigation Police on Economic, Corruption and Environmental Crimes, Bac Ninh Provincial Police had issued a decisionprosecute“Causing environmental pollution” in Quan Nghe area, Trai hamlet, Dai Bai village, Dai Bai commune, Gia Binh district.
Previously, at around 5:00 p.m. on March 14, the Department of Investigation Police on Economic Corruption and Environmental Crimes, Bac Ninh Provincial Police discovered and caught red-handed an aluminum smelter hired for the aluminum furnace owned by Ms. Nguyen Thi Thinh (born in 1969, in Quan Nghe area, Trai hamlet, Dai Bai village, Dai Bai commune, Gia Binh district), illegally dumping waste slag from the aluminum furnace onto the land behind the furnace.

At the time of inspection, Ms. Thinh's aluminum smelting furnace was operating, with 3 workers working.
Through investigation, the Department of Investigation Police on Economic Corruption and Environmental Crimes determined: The land plot where Ms. Nguyen Thi Thinh's family lives and operates in manual aluminum smelting is agricultural land, used for aquaculture, not licensed for residential land or industrial production business activities, nor licensed for burying, filling, or dumping waste.
The Department of Investigation Police on Economic Corruption and Environmental Crimes, Bac Ninh Provincial Police coordinated with the Criminal Technique Department of the Provincial Police, the Provincial People's Procuracy, the Gia Binh District People's Procuracy, the People's Committee of Dai Bai Commune, the Dai Bai Commune Police and the authorities of Dai Bai Village, Dai Bai Commune to examine the scene; coordinated with the Vehicle Weight Inspection Department - Bac Ninh Traffic Supervision and Control Center, the Provincial Department of Construction and related units to weigh the illegally dumped aluminum slag waste with a mass of nearly 123 tons.

Dai Bai bronze casting village has existed for a long time with art paintings, bronze worship items and household items such as trays, bowls, chopsticks, pots, teapots, cups, etc.
In recent months, Dai Bai commune has seen the emergence of many new aluminum smelting facilities. According to local residents, these facilities have moved from Van Mon commune, Yen Phong district to here because the Bac Ninh provincial government has decided to issue a ban on aluminum smelting activities in Van Mon, requiring businesses to change their business lines or relocate to concentrated industrial parks with standard waste treatment systems.
However, instead of complying with the regulations, some businesses have "circumvented the law" by moving their production activities to Dai Bai area, Gia Binh district, Bac Ninh province, continuing to pollute the environment. According to local residents, smoke and dust from aluminum smelters in Dai Bai cause difficulty breathing, affecting daily life and agricultural production.
