Prosecution of scaffolding collapse that killed 4 people

On January 14, Colonel Le Trung Hieu - Chief of Staff (Thanh Hoa Provincial Police) said: The Investigation Police Agency of Thanh Hoa Provincial Police has decided to prosecute the criminal case of the scaffolding collapse that killed 4 people at the Suoi Quanh bridge construction site.

Colonel Le Trung Hieu added: The above criminal case was prosecuted under Article 227 of the Penal Code, violating regulations on labor safety causing serious consequences.

As previously reported, the incident occurred at 6:30 p.m. on January 9. While officers and workers were constructing the bridge, the scaffolding suddenly collapsed.

The deceased include Nguyen Tuan Vu (born in 1992, in Chuong My, Hanoi), Nguyen Dinh Tung (born in 1992, in Vu Thu, Thai Binh province), Bui Van Trung (born in 1980) and Phan Van Thinh (born in 1984), both from Huong Son district, Ha Tinh province. Of the four deceased, two were technical staff and two were workers.

According to the plan, Suoi Quanh bridge is located in Trung Son commune, Quan Hoa district, part of the road project connecting the western mountainous districts of Thanh Hoa province.

The bridge has a total length of 257.2m; the total investment of the project is over 182 billion VND. As of December 2015, the contractor has completed about 80% of the project volume, expected to be completed in March 2016.

The case is being continued by the authorities.
