Criminal proceedings initiated in the Quang Tri railway accident case.

Earlier, in an interview with reporters, Colonel Nguyen Van Dinh, Deputy Director of the Quang Tri Provincial Police, stated that after the accident occurred, the provincial police leadership directed the relevant departments to promptly organize rescue and first aid for the injured. At the same time, the provincial police also assigned the Criminal Investigation Department to collect evidence at the scene and investigate the cause of the incident.

Colonel Dinh also stated that the accident occurred at a level crossing with a railway line that had warning lights. Although there were no barriers, judging from the scene, it appears the truck driver lacked attention and failed to observe carefully when crossing the tracks as the SE5 train was approaching.

Reportedly, following the accident, the Quang Tri Provincial Police, in coordination with railway officials, conducted a scene investigation, examined the locomotive, and collected the black box of train SE5 to aid in the investigation.

As reported by VietNamNet, at approximately 9:45 PM on March 10th, a serious railway accident occurred on the North-South railway line passing through Hai Lam commune (Hai Lang district, Quang Tri province), resulting in one death, nearly 10 injuries, and severe damage to the SE5 train.

At that time, the SE5 train, pulling 14 passenger carriages and driven by Le Minh Phu (53 years old, residing at 2/40 Phan Chu Trinh Street, Hue City), was traveling from North to South when it collided with a truck carrying stones with license plate 75R-00185, driven by Nguyen Gia Hai (from Thua Thien Hue province), which unexpectedly crossed the level crossing.

After the powerful collision that split the truck in two, the locomotive detached from the carriages and sped forward for nearly 2km. Three adjacent carriages were severely damaged, deformed, derailed, and scattered onto the highway.

At the scene, the train cabin was crushed, killing the train driver instantly, while the truck driver sustained serious injuries. Meanwhile, after the powerful collision with the truck, three adjacent passenger carriages overturned onto National Highway 1A, seriously injuring many passengers and causing panic among dozens of passengers on board.

The serious railway accident resulted in the death of the train driver, estimated damages of up to 23 billion VND, and delays for other trains for a day.
