Changing your 10th grade preferences is to increase your chances of being admitted to public schools. This year, after the deadline for changing preferences ended, the number of students coming and going to schools did not fluctuate much.

Specifically, at Huynh Thuc Khang High School (Vinh City) - the school with the highest competition rate in the province this school year, the number of candidates registering for the school has decreased by nearly 200 students from 1,560 to 1,371.

According to the school’s forecast, every year more than 400 students who register for the school entrance exam will study at specialized schools or non-public schools. Therefore, with the current number of students, the school’s admission rate after changing their wishes will be quite high, over 80%.

This year, to avoid the situation of students massively withdrawing their applications like last school year, right after candidates completed the 10th grade entrance exam, Huynh Thuc Khang High School issued a notice asking parents and students to "be cautious with unverified information". Among them, some unofficial sources of information appeared, raising unnecessary concerns among students and parents, leading to unfounded withdrawals or changes in wishes. Because before that, on some fake Facebook pages, information was posted that the number of applications to transfer to Huynh Thuc Khang High School had increased dramatically with more than 2,000 applications.

At Ha Huy Tap High School and Le Viet Thuat High School, after changing wishes, the number of applications also fluctuated but not much.

In particular, at Ha Huy Tap High School, the number of applications increased from 862 to 947. At Le Viet Thuat High School, the number increased from 703 to 857. This year, the enrollment quota for traditional classes at these two schools remains the same at 810 students. In addition, the schools still enroll 2 classes according to the advanced model with a quota of 80 students.

In addition to Vinh city, the number of applications in some neighboring localities is also basically stable. In Hung Nguyen district, at Le Hong Phong High School, the number of students remains the same at 386. At Thai Lao High School, the number of students decreased from 481 to 392; at Pham Hong Thai High School, from 358 applications to 316; and at Kim Lien High School, from 512 to 563.

Meanwhile, in Nghi Loc district, which annually attracts many students to take the exam, Nguyen Duy Trinh High School has seen the number of students registering for the school decrease from 710 to 688 this year.

Reducing applications to schools near Vinh will theoretically increase the chances of admission for local students.

In the whole province, speaking with Nghe An Newspaper, Mr. Dao Cong Loi - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training said: Apart from Vinh city, this year, the number of students registering for public schools after changing their wishes did not fluctuate much. This was predicted because this year the number of candidates taking the 10th grade entrance exam decreased, but the Provincial People's Committee still kept the total enrollment target the same as the previous school year. On the side of the Department of Education and Training, with the function of State management, the Department has adjusted the number of targets to suit the reality. With the current data, this year the chance of being admitted to schools will be very high and many schools will reach over 90%.

Regarding the 10th grade entrance exam this year, Mr. Dao Cong Loi also answered questions about the fact that some schools, although the number of candidates registering for the exam is lower than the enrollment target, the Department of Education and Training still organizes the entrance exam. The Department's viewpoint is that organizing the entrance exam will motivate schools and students in the learning process. Organizing a common exam with fair and objective grading will create a basis for the Department of Education and Training to accurately assess the quality of teaching and learning in schools. Thereby, from the next school year, when switching to a 2-level government, the Department will have a basis to direct quality management at both levels (junior high school and high school) to improve the effectiveness of teaching and learning.
