At the match between The Cong Viettel andLam River Nghe AnIn round 20 of V.League 2024/25 taking place at Hang Day Stadium, Song Lam Nghe An Club said that the referee's handling of situations on the field was disadvantageous to Song Lam Nghe An.

The document stated: “This is a match that left many questions for the audience about the quality of the referee and many decisions that were disadvantageous to Song Lam Nghe An Club.

In the 14th minute, from a corner kick on the right wing in the direction of Song Lam Nghe An's attack, the ball touched the hand of player Nham Manh Dung in the penalty area. This was a situation that could have resulted in a penalty, but without any signal from the VAR referee team, referee Nguyen Viet Duan could not judge the situation.

In the 51st minute, SLNA was awarded a corner kick on the right wing in an attacking direction. Ho Van Cuong took a curling free kick with his right foot, Le Van Thanh rushed in and cushioned the ball close to the goal. Assistant referee Tran Van Hai raised his flag to signal that the ball had gone out of bounds and the main referee did not recognize the goal for Song Lam Nghe An.

In this situation, the TV camera angle and many favorable camera angles of the audience showed that the ball had not gone over the goal line. In the 86th minute, player Nguyen Cong Phuong of The Cong Viettel broke into the penalty area and collided with Nguyen Quang Vinh of Song Lam Nghe An. The VAR referee team signaled that player Nguyen Quang Vinh had committed a foul on player Nguyen Cong Phuong. Unlike other situations, referee Nguyen Viet Duan spent more than 5 minutes checking the video before deciding to award The Cong Viettel a penalty.

After that referee's handling, Song Lam Nghe An Club said: "The decisions of referee Nguyen Viet Duan and the VAR Referee Team caused the situation and results to continuously change in a direction unfavorable to Song Lam Nghe An."

Song Lam Nghe An Club proposed: “To ensure fairness and objectivity in the refereeing work of the tournament, regain the trust of the audience nationwide as well as the audience of Song Lam Nghe An Club, we request that the Vietnam Football Federation pay close attention and provide timely instructions on the refereeing work and the VAR technology currently being applied. Regarding the refereeing work and the controversial situations of the match between The Cong Viettel and Song Lam Nghe An, Song Lam Nghe An Club requests the Referee Board of the Vietnam Football Federation to analyze the technical video recording and give a conclusion and satisfactory explanation to protect the honor of the referees, ensuring the prestige of the tournament”./.
