The Ministry of National Defense confirmed that Quang Quoc Viet did not have tuberculosis as previously examined locally, but was not tall or underweight.

On the morning of October 9, Major General Nguyen Van Duc, Director of the Propaganda Department (Ministry of National Defense) responded to the case of Quang Quoc Viet in Nghe An who failed to pass the entrance exam to the Information Officer School.

In the 2018 National High School Exam, candidate Quang Quoc Viet (born in 2000, Thai ethnic group, living in Thong Thu commune, Que Phong, Nghe An) scored 22.35 points including priority points. Viet registered his first choice at the Information Officer School in Nha Trang City (Khanh Hoa) and received an admission notice from the school.

But after 2 weeks of studying, the school announced that Viet would be sent back to his hometown because he had tuberculosis, classified as a category 5 military health officer..., not meeting the standards. His family then took him to Nghe An Tuberculosis Hospital for a health check, and it was concluded that his health was normal, and he did not have tuberculosis.

Viet's family brought this result to the Information Officer School to request a review and were instructed to re-examine at the Central Military Hospital 175 (HCMC). Here, military doctors determined that Viet did not have tuberculosis or respiratory problems, but he did not meet the standards for weight and height.

The fact that the same person has two different test results makes the candidate's family and many people confused. The School of Information Officers must send an urgent dispatch to report to the Ministry of National Defense Admissions Council.

Major General Nguyen Van Duc said that on October 6, the School Department, General Staff held a meeting to clarify the incident. Attending the meeting were representatives of the Information Officer School, Military Hospital 175, Military Hospital 87 and the Military Command of Que Phong District, Nghe An Province - the unit that conducted the preliminary health examination of Quang Quoc Viet.

"The initial meeting concluded that candidate Quang Quoc Viet did not meet the standards according to the regulations of the Military Recruitment Board of the Ministry of National Defense. Specifically, when re-examined, the candidate's height was 1m60, weight 48 kg (while the standard must be 1m65, weight 50 kg or more)," Mr. Duc informed.

Mr. Duc added that the re-examination result was conducted at Military Hospital 175 on September 26. "The candidate's brother (also a doctor) signed the confirmation of the re-examination conclusion. The conclusion that Viet has tuberculosis, weighs 50 kg, and is 1m62 tall from Military Hospital 87, as well as the preliminary examination result of Que Phong district, is not accurate," the Director of the Propaganda Department told the press.

According to the representative of the Ministry of National Defense, the nature of the incident is that Quang Quoc Viet did not meet the health criteria (height, weight) to join the army. The Ministry of National Defense has directed the relevant agencies to directly work and handle two units, Military Hospital 87 and Que Phong District Military Command, because of incorrect information in the initial examination results.

According to regulations of the Ministry of National Defense, candidates applying to military schools must meet general criteria for internal medicine, neuropsychiatry, surgery, dermatology, ophthalmology (except for refractive errors such as myopia which have separate regulations), ear - nose - throat, teeth - jaw - face, and chest circumference.
