Do not include dietary supplements in prescriptions.

The Food Safety Department (Ministry of Health) has sent a document to its affiliated units and the Departments of Health of provinces and centrally-administered cities, requesting that these units instruct hospitals and prescribers not to include dietary supplements in prescriptions for patients.

This directive was issued after the Food Safety Administration received numerous complaints from patients about doctors arbitrarily prescribing dietary supplements in prescriptions.

For many years now, not only in hospitals but also in private clinics, doctors have been adding one or two types of dietary supplements when prescribing medication. For example, pediatric patients are often prescribed supplements containing vitamins, zinc, iron, and probiotics; eye patients are prescribed supplements containing vitamins A and D, and so on.
