US Marine Corps Air Force firmly established number 1 position
With the new upgrade package for F/A-18C fighter jets, the US Marine Corps Air Force is even stronger than the Naval Air Force of many other countries.
The United States Marine Corps is an independent military branch of the Navy. They have built many diverse military branches with all modern means of combat on water, in the air and on land.
The US Marine Corps Air Force is very large in scale with thousands of fighter planes of all types, from armed helicopters, transport helicopters... to specialized fighters on aircraft carriers and landing ships.
Currently, the force has 5th generation stealth fighters with vertical take-off and landing capabilities, F-35B, to deploy on amphibious assault ships to replace the AV-8B Harrier, providing power not much inferior to the Navy's aircraft carrier fleet.
Besides the F-35B, the US Marine Corps also has a large number of F/A-18C/D fighters deployed from land bases for air superiority and long-range air support missions.

However, while the US Navy has replaced all F/A-18C/Ds with the more modern F/A-18E/F series, the US Marine Corps has not received proper attention in this field, and they even had to re-enlist many aircraft that were being stored at Davis-Monthan base.
But in the new situation, with increased budget, this force decided to upgrade its F/A-18C/D squadron with modern equipment according to 5th generation standards.
Northrop Gumman Corporation said it has successfully tested the suitability of the APG-83 SABR active phased array radar for an F/A-18C fighter at Miramar base in California, opening up the possibility of equipping the entire fleet with this equipment.
The US Marine Corps' F/A-18C/D fighter will have features approaching 5th generation fighters. |
The APG-83 SABR active phased array radar provides long-range target detection with superior accuracy compared to the present. This equipment has been proven through testing to fully meet all requirements regarding size, weight and cooling system compatibility of the F/A-18C/D.
After completing the upgrade process with the new radar, the F/A-18C/D is assessed to be capable of confronting 5th generation fighters and overwhelming all 4.5 generation fighters that are still using outdated PESA passive scanning radar.
The US Marine Corps Air Force will firmly establish its position as the world's number one in both quantity and quality, even surpassing all other naval air forces in the world.
