It is impossible to develop agriculture with the mindset of 'First water, second fertilizer, third diligence, fourth seeds'
(Baonghean.vn) - That was the affirmation of former Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee, former Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Chairman of Vietnam General Association of Agriculture and Rural Development Ho Xuan Hung at the scientific workshop "Theoretical and practical basis in determining key plants and animals of Nghe An province" held on the morning of May 26.

Nghe An will have more mechanisms to attract businesses to invest in agriculture.
(Baonghean.vn) - That was the affirmation of Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Duc Trung at the scientific workshop "Theoretical basis and practice in determining key trees and animals of the province in the period of 2021 - 2025 with orientation to 2030".
Mr. Ho Xuan Hung - said that it is necessary to completely change the mindset of developing a comprehensive agriculture to the mindset of developing clean agriculture, applying high technology on the basis of economic efficiency according to market signals. Only then can we focus on investing in exploiting the advantages of ecological regions and developing key agricultural products effectively.
By doing so, investment resources, especially in the policy stage, can be focused on expansion.
This is not a new issue but it is not easy to apply and requires high determination when in the general situation of the whole country, Nghe An agriculture has not escaped the mindset of "developing a comprehensive agriculture".

At the workshop, Mr. Ho Xuan Hung also pointed out many solutions that need to be prioritized in the production of key plants and animals. In particular, focusing on investing in the seed stage (both plants and animals) because this is the decisive stage. Today's agricultural thinking cannot be "First water, second fertilizer, third diligence, fourth seed" anymore, but must be "first seed", each seed requires the same amount of fertilizer, water and care. At the same time, it is necessary to persevere in the policy of promoting production according to the value chain under the leadership of leading enterprises applying high technology.

Need to add social and environmental criteria
In addition, Nghe An needs to have clear criteria for distinguishing: Traditional and typical products that are suitable for the growing needs of the market; new products established in the area and expected future key products. From there, it creates opportunities for investors to expand or invest in new products in accordance with the development strategy of the province. For example, can we forecast avocado products, the current planned area in 2020 is only 60 hectares, but after 10 years, can they become key products?

Or citrus lemons, which are currently not listed in the list of agricultural products of the province, but are already famous in the Northern market. Currently, lemons are being grown in a scattered manner, taking advantage of the situation. If there is a breakthrough to become seedless lemons and grow them in large areas of garden land and hills in Nghi Loc, Nam Dan, Hung Nguyen districts and some districts in semi-mountainous and low-lying areas, what will happen, especially when demand is increasing?
"By the end of 2019, Nghe An's agricultural economic structure still accounted for 19 - 20% of the province's GDP. Although not large, in general, Nghe An is still an agricultural province, with 42% of agricultural workers and more than 85% of residents living in rural areas. In my opinion, in the next few decades, the province's comparative advantage compared to the whole country will still be agriculture (agriculture - forestry - fishery). Therefore, Nghe An needs to seize the opportunity, especially after establishing key agricultural products, along with the province's specialties and characteristics, with appropriate policies to promote rapid development and create breakthroughs in the first 5 - 10 years," Mr. Ho Xuan Hung shared.
