Population size, by 2030, Dung Quat Economic Zone will have about 347,000 people (of which urban population is 295,000 people, rural population is about 52,000 people); urbanization rate is about 85%. Vision to 2045, population is about 575,000 people (of which urban population is 546,000 people, rural population is about 29,000 people); urbanization rate is about 95%.

Dung Quat Economic Zone is one of the important transportation, goods exchange and international exchange hubs of the Central and Central Highlands regions. This is also an area with an important position in the Central Key Economic Zone and in terms of national security and defense.

Therefore, this place is planned for a transportation system such as ports, airports and logistics service centers, with an area of about 608 hectares. Of which, Dung Quat, Sa Ky, Tinh Hoa - Tinh Ky, Ly Son wharf areas have an area of about 300 hectares; Ly Son airport is about 153 hectares; port and logistics service centers have an area of about 155 hectares.
Dung Quat Economic Zone is planned with an area of 45.3 thousand hectares; the East borders the East Sea; the West borders the North-South railway; the South borders Quang Ngai City and the North borders Quang Nam province.
According to the adjusted planning, the area is about 45.3 thousand hectares, of which the mainland area is about 33.4 thousand hectares, Ly Son island is more than 1.4 thousand hectares (including the current status of the island of more than 1 thousand hectares and new development space) and the water surface area (sea area) is about 10.7 thousand hectares.

Forming 5 main functional sub-zones, including: North Dung Quat urban, industrial and service sub-zone; Chau O - Binh Long urban, industrial and service sub-zone; South Dung Quat urban, industrial and service sub-zone; Southeast Dung Quat urban and service sub-zone; and Ly Son urban sub-zone.

In which, the urban areas and urban areas have a total area of about 14 thousand hectares, including: Ly Son urban area (Ly Son district), Tinh Phong urban area (Son Tinh district) and 4 core urban areas of Binh Son urban area (Doc Soi, Chau O - Binh Long, Van Tuong, Dong Nam Dung Quat), Tinh Hoa - Tinh Ky urban area (Quang Ngai city), in which the land for civil construction is about 9.3 thousand hectares (including residential land, public land, trees, urban traffic, and labor union institutions).

Existing functional areas in Dung Quat Economic Zone are adjusted and rearranged such as: Dung Quat Power Center adds Gas Power Center, area of about 103 hectares, located in Binh Thanh commune, Binh Son district.

Industrial parks, industrial clusters, industrial - urban - service parks have a total area of about more than 8 thousand hectares, with 7 concentrated industrial development areas, of which the adjusted industrial parks and industrial clusters have a total area of about 4.2 thousand hectares (Tay Dung Quat Industrial Park, about 355 hectares; Dong Dung Quat Industrial Park, about 2.2 thousand hectares; Binh Hoa - Binh Phuoc I Industrial Park, about 610 hectares; Binh Hoa - Binh Phuoc II Industrial Park, about 305 hectares; Tinh Phong Industrial Park, about 138 hectares; VSIP Industrial Park, about 582 hectares; Binh Nguyen Industrial Cluster, about 20 hectares).
