Vietnamese farmers who grow Japanese rice and export it to the Japanese market need to be cautious to avoid losses in the future.

At a meeting between a delegation of experts from Ibaraki province (Japan) and leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dong Thap province on the afternoon of December 15th, Mr. Hsao Utsigi, a Japanese agricultural expert, warned against expanding the cultivation of Japanese rice varieties in Vietnam.

According to Mr. Hsao Utsigi, Japan has converted 30% of its rice-growing area to growing vegetables or rice varieties for animal feed due to the overproduction of rice.

Therefore, Vietnamese farmers who grow Japanese rice and export it to the Japanese market need to be cautious to avoid losses in the future.

Reportedly, the area planted with Japanese rice in Dong Thap province this year has expanded to approximately 10,000 hectares, concentrated mainly in Thanh Binh, Tam Nong, and Tan Hong districts.
