People are advised not to use illegal mobile signal boosters.

Recently, the Regional Radio Frequency Center VI (Center VI) under the Radio Frequency Department (Ministry of Science and Technology) coordinated with Vinh Phu Ward Police, Nghe An Province to handle administrative violations of 01 case of people using mobile signal boosters in Vinh Phu Ward.

Previously, using technical measures, Center VI discovered a mobile signal booster at Ms. NTTN's household, located on Dong Yen Street, Vinh Phu Ward, Nghe An Province. At the time of the investigation, Ms. N admitted that she had purchased the device online for 3.5 million VND and installed it herself to improve the weak mobile signal quality.

Upon verification, this device is a radio device with a transmitting power of less than or equal to 15W. However, Ms. N does not have a license to use radio frequencies and equipment as prescribed by law.

The authorities have drawn up a record and issued a decision to impose an administrative penalty for the act of using radio frequencies and equipment without a license for radio equipment with a transmission capacity of less than or equal to 15W as prescribed in Decree 15/2020/ND-CP dated February 3, 2020 of the Government regulating administrative penalties in the fields of post, telecommunications, radio frequencies, information technology and electronic transactions (amended and supplemented by a number of articles in Decree 14/2022/ND-CP dated January 27, 2022 of the Government).

According to regulations, people are absolutely not allowed to equip, install and use mobile signal boosters without permission because this is a violation of the law. In particular, if installed illegally, this device can cause interference with the surrounding area, affecting the mobile transmission stations of mobile network operators. This is also the reason why in some places, mobile users experience loss of connection, dropped calls or reduced network access speed.

Only mobile information service providers with a license to use the frequency band are allowed to install and use mobile signal boosters on the licensed frequency band.

In case the mobile phone cannot be contacted due to weak signal, people need to notify the hotline number of the corresponding mobile information service provider for support.

Center VI recommends that organizations and individuals who need to use radio equipment, including equipment in the list of equipment exempted from licenses, such as wireless audio equipment (microphones), wireless image transmission equipment, radio identification equipment, and radio remote control equipment, should only equip equipment with clear origin, with conformity certificates and conformity declarations./.
