Kia Morning and Mazda2 reduce prices to welcome tax in Vietnam

Kia Morning decreased by 7-9 million while another Thaco product, Mazda2, decreased by 15 million. On the contrary, Kia Sedona and Mazda BT-50 increased in price.

From July 1, the new special consumption tax rate will be officially applied. Accordingly, cars with a cylinder capacity of 1.5 liters or less will have their tax reduced, while higher models will remain the same or increase, especially for cars with a capacity of 3 liters or more. The change in special consumption tax is explained as aiming to limit large-sized cars and stimulate consumption of small-sized cars.

There is still nearly a month until the new tax takes effect, but Truong Hai has quickly adjusted car prices from now. Accordingly, two models with engines of 1.5 liters or less, Kia Morning and Mazda2, are both assembled domestically, so their prices will be reduced according to the new tax. From July 1, these cars will be subject to a new tax rate of 40% compared to the previous 45%.

Kia Morning has reduced prices on 3 versions: LX 1.25 MT, Si MT and Si AT, with a reduction of 7-9 million VND.Meanwhile, Mazda2 reduced the price of both sedan and hatchback versions by 15 million VND. On the contrary, Truong Hai said that cars with capacity over 3 liters, Mazda BT-50 and Kia Sedona will increase by about 50-150 million VND.

Kia Morning is the only A-class car in the top 10 best-selling cars in Vietnam every month. Mazda2 also has increasing sales, to counter the expansion of Toyota Vios. Truong Hai's move to reduce prices one month in advance is a strategy to impress customers in order to boost sales.

There are small cars on the market with engines under 1.5 liters, but they are imported, not assembled. Imported cars are also subject to an increase in special consumption tax due to the new way of calculating tax, based on wholesale prices, not cost prices. Therefore, there is no basis to confirm whether these cars will be discounted or not, it depends on the calculation method of the distributor.
