Earn billions every year by decorating bananas
As a student, Davonte Wilson was considered a 'crazy' person when he decorated bananas. Few people expected that a few years later, he could earn $100,000 (~2.2 billion VND) from his products.
Davonte Wilson was a software engineering student in the US. Throughout his time at school, he was extremely stressed by the amount of knowledge and homework at school. Each passing class was like torture for Wilson, making him more discouraged.

Wilson, who loves fruit, often carries two bananas with him to add fiber to his snacks. When bored, he often draws illustrations on each banana to kill time.
Because of his lack of interest in studying, Wilson often received low results in exams. His teacher even frankly commented on his exam: "Maybe you should study harder to complete your report better, instead of wasting time playing with your bananas." All his friends also joined in mocking Wilson's habit, which was considered "crazy".
After graduating, Wilson was hired as an electrocardiogram technician at the local hospital, where he continued his habit of decorating bananas. However, people were very supportive and enthusiastic about Wilson's works. The hospital director even personally talked to him, encouraging him to maintain this habit and develop it into a business.

“The hospital director saw that what I was doing was really new,” Davonte Wilson confided. “Then I went home and thought, ‘Can I develop this hobby into something bigger and bring joy to people?’”
After many experiments, Wilson decided to turn bananas into different characters such as Mr. Banana Head, Superman or Minion from the movie "Despicable Me". He bought accessories to decorate his works to make them more vivid, then took pictures and sold them online.
Wilson’s customers can order their favorite quotes, drawings, and characters. Based on the original model, he will create unique details, decorate accessories such as beards, mustaches, or glasses… to give each product its own unique mark.

To preserve his creations, Wilson buys bananas when they are still green. He decorates them and carefully wraps them in plastic wrap to slow down the ripening process of each fruit.
In a short time, Wilson had customers all over the country. His orders were so high that the software engineer had to switch to working part-time for the hospital, every other day.
On average, he gets 55 orders a day, which is about $8,000 in revenue per month. “That’s real revenue. Every time I order, I get eight bananas for $1.05, and I pay $3.50 for shipping. A simple decorated banana costs $9.99. I charge an additional 99 cents for each additional decoration (like a bow, sunglasses, or hair). But on average, each order is worth about $11,” Wilson said.

Up to now, after 1 year of business, Wilson has earned a profit of up to 100,000 USD from decorating bananas.
Sharing about his success, he humorously said: “At first, I just wanted to do it for fun, but I didn’t expect people to love my bananas so much. I think anyone of us can introduce our hobbies to the world and make people feel the joy and excitement from them.”
