Food safety inspections for the Mid-Autumn Festival were conducted in 9 localities.
Nine provinces/cities include: Hanoi, Hai Duong, Hai Phong, Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Can Tho, Da Nang, Quang Nam, and Thua Thien Hue.
From August 26th to September 25th, 2013, three inspection teams from the Food Safety Department (Ministry of Health) will conduct inspections and monitoring of food safety during the Mid-Autumn Festival in nine provinces/cities nationwide (Hanoi, Hai Duong, Hai Phong, Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, Can Tho, Da Nang, Quang Nam, and Thua Thien Hue).
The inspection team will conduct unannounced inspections and monitoring of compliance with food safety regulations at food production, import, and trading establishments, focusing primarily on products that are widely consumed during the Mid-Autumn Festival; take samples for testing of food safety indicators as prescribed; handle and recommend handling of food safety violations as prescribed; compile and report the results, and propose to the competent authorities measures to strengthen state management of food safety.

The Food Safety Department stated that during their work in the localities, the Department's inspection team will work directly with the Department of Health - the Standing Committee of the Inter-sectoral Steering Committee on Food Hygiene and Safety of the provinces and cities - to understand the current situation of food safety assurance during the Mid-Autumn Festival and the implementation of food safety inspection and control work during the Mid-Autumn Festival as directed by the Central Inter-sectoral Steering Committee on Food Hygiene and Safety.
From August 26th to September 30th, Hanoi will focus on inspecting and strengthening food safety supervision, especially for mooncakes. The city will establish six inter-agency food safety inspection teams to check the implementation of the plan by districts, communes, wards, and departments. They will also conduct on-site inspections of food production, processing, and business establishments in their assigned areas. |
