Determined not to let Nghe An become a drug transit area
(Baonghean.vn) - With the participation of Party committees, authorities at all levels, and functional forces, the fight against drugs in the province has achieved many results. However, the rugged terrain and increasingly sophisticated criminal methods... make the fight against drugs still difficult.
Many cases and networks were uncovered.
On December 24, 2023, on National Highway 48D, through Ta village, Quang Phong commune, Que Phong district, the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department presided over and coordinated with the police of Quy Chau and Que Phong districts to arrest Truong Dinh Luan, residing in Dak Nong province, and Vo Van Du, residing in Tien Giang province, for illegally transporting drugs. At the scene, the police seized 3 heroin cakes, 215 synthetic drug pills, 10 grams of crystal meth, 1 motorbike and some other evidence.
At the same time, in Quy Chau district, the authorities arrested and urgently searched Dang Quang Tuat (born in 1970), residing in Block 2, Tan Lac town, for illegal drug trafficking; confiscated 20 grams of heroin, 4 mobile phones, 1 car and some related exhibits. At the same time, the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department, Nghe An Provincial Police presided over and coordinated with Cao Bang Provincial Police to arrest La Thi Hoa, Trung Khanh District, Cao Bang Province, who was a consumer in this drug crime ring.

Previously, on the morning of December 15, 2023, Vinh City Police successfully broke up a case, dismantled a drug ring, and arrested Thao A Cang (born in 1981) and Thao A Thong (born in 1991), both residing in Tan Lap Commune, Moc Chau District, Son La Province, while they were transporting a large quantity of drugs from Son La to Nghe An for consumption. The seized exhibits included 7 kg of crystal meth, 2 kg of ketamine, 2 heroin cakes, and 12,000 synthetic drug pills.
More daringly, some subjects also colluded with Vietnamese people residing in European countries to illegally transport drugs by air to Vietnam under the guise of packing drugs into European milk cartons with labels. Typically, on September 14, 2023, Yen Thanh District Police presided over and coordinated with relevant forces to arrest Tang Tien Do and Thai Cong Chinh, both residing in Tho Thanh Commune, Yen Thanh District, currently residing in Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City, for illegal drug trafficking; the seized evidence included 13 kg of ketamine.
According to the statistics, in the first 9 months of 2023, the Drug Crime Investigation Police force in the whole province detected and arrested 968 cases, 1,306 subjects (of which 94 drug cases were successfully solved); seized 10.02 kg of heroin; 44.9 kg and 190,830 synthetic drug pills; 13.5 kg of other drugs and many related exhibits; eliminated 29 major drug rings (achieving 93% of the target assigned by the Ministry of Public Security, compared to the same period in 2022, an increase of 105 cases, 198 subjects).
In the first 15 days of launching the campaign to attack and suppress crime to ensure security and order before, during and after the 2024 Lunar New Year, regarding drug crimes, 122 cases and 137 subjects were discovered and arrested; 17 heroin cakes, 2.1 kg and more than 41,000 synthetic drug pills, 7.23 kg of crystal meth, and 3 homemade guns were seized.
Continue to step up attacks and raids
According to the assessment of the Provincial Police, with the synchronous and drastic participation, all levels, sectors, and local authorities have accompanied the police force to deploy and replicate the Project on Building "Non-Drug-Free Border Communes", aiming at the goal of drug-free border districts in the province. In addition to 27 border communes, up to now, 81 more communes have been recognized as meeting the standards of "Non-Drug-Free Communes". Hoang Mai town alone became the first unit in the whole province to complete the target of building a "Non-Drug-Free Town" when 10/10 wards and communes were recognized as "none-free".
In particular, the Drug Crime Investigation Police at all levels have increased coordination with the Border Guard, Coast Guard, Customs, etc. in the fight against drug crimes; thereby fighting and eliminating many large drug crime rings and gangs.

However, in reality, Nghe An is a large province, with a border line adjacent to 3 provinces of Laos of 468.281 km long, with 5 border gates and hundreds of small-scale roads, rugged and complex mountainous terrain, favorable for drug criminals to take advantage of hiding and operating, causing many difficulties for authorities in performing their duties. On the other hand, Nghe An is also located near the "Golden Triangle" of Laos - Myanmar - Thailand, a major drug production area in the world, a convenient area for drug transit by road and sea with increasingly sophisticated and cunning methods and tricks of operation.
In addition, the socio-economic situation of some localities in the area, especially in mountainous districts, still has many difficulties, the level of education and legal knowledge is still limited, especially in ethnic minority areas, while the profits from drugs are large, so people are easily lured and enticed by bad elements, giving rise to many crimes and drug-related evils.

With the forces working to fight against drugs in general, not every raid can control the subjects without bloodshed. Because drug criminals are always ready to use "hot" weapons to fight back when discovered and arrested. In fact, there are soldiers who have sacrificed and been injured.
For example, on August 24, 2023, Quy Chau District Police broke up a case, arrested 3 subjects in Quy Chau District for illegal drug trafficking, seized 8.263 grams of heroin, 4 homemade knives and swords and many other related exhibits. During the arrest, subject Vi Van Tuong (residing in Na Pua village, Chau Nga commune) recklessly used a weapon to fight back fiercely, causing injuries to Major Moong Van Tan, a police officer of Chau Nga commune.
Nghe An police determined that, in addition to propaganda work, promoting the movement "All people protect national security", replicating new models and good practices in drug prevention and control, police units and localities continue to further strengthen the fight against crime and drug abuse in the area. The focus is on implementing and replicating the Project "Border communes clean of drugs"; doing a good job of receiving and handling reports and denunciations of crimes; coordinating with functional forces, especially at the border to resolutely fight and prevent the "supply" of drugs from outside into the province; resolutely not letting Nghe An become a place for smuggling, buying, selling, transporting and transiting drugs. Strengthening international cooperation, especially with neighboring provinces of Laos in the fight against, preventing and combating crimes, law violations, especially drug-related crimes...
