The diamond, named the Argyle Violet, was found in 2015 at the Argyle mine in Australia. At 9.17 carats, it was the largest rough purple diamond ever discovered.
After polishing, its weight was reduced to 2.83 carats. It is expected to be auctioned later this year for more than 4 million Australian dollars (more than 3 million USD, equivalent to nearly 67 billion VND).
"Given its exceptional rarity, the Argyle Violet will be highly sought after for its beauty, size and provenance," said Patrick Coppens, sales director of Rio Tinto Diamonds, the company that owns the diamond.
According to the Telegraph, purple diamonds are rarely seen and in the past 32 years, only 12 carats of purple diamonds have been polished for auction.
