According to KBS, this year, North Korean media did not report on President Kim Jong-un's visit to the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, one of the annual events taking place on the party's founding day.
Kumsusan Palace of the Sun is the resting place of North Korean leaders Kim Il-sung and Kim Jong-il, the grandfather and father of current leader Kim Jong-un.
The last time Mr. Kim Jong-un appeared was at a meeting of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea on October 7. Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Kim Jong-un called the country's nuclear weapons a powerful defense measure for North Korea itself and the whole world against the US nuclear threat.
“North Korea’s nuclear weapons are the precious fruits of the people’s bloody struggle to defend the country’s destiny and sovereignty from the US nuclear threat. They are a powerful defense measure to protect the peace and security of the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia,” Kim Jong-un stressed.
According to Chairman Kim, in the context of "complicated international developments", nuclear weapons will help ensure North Korea's sovereignty and "right to exist".
The North Korean leader called it “a precious sword of justice that will remove the nuclear cloud of tyranny” and “provide the people with an independent and happy life under the clear blue sky.”
Since taking power, this is the third time Kim Jong-un has not visited the Sun Palace on the party's founding day.
