Leader Kim Jong-un "studied the plan for quite a while" and "discussed" it with commanding officers when he inspected the Korean Strategic Force headquarters on August 14, North Korean news agency KCNA reported.

According to Mr. Kim Jong-un, "the US has tied a noose around its own neck by its reckless military confrontation." He postponed the plan to attack Guam with missiles, "waiting to see more" of the US's actions before making an "important" decision.

"In order to reduce tensions and prevent military conflict on the Korean peninsula, the US needs to make the right choice and demonstrate it through actions," Kim Jong-un said.

The North Korean military announced last week that it would complete a detailed plan to launch four Hwasong-12 intermediate-range ballistic missiles toward the US island of Guam by mid-August and present it to leader Kim Jong-un. This was in response to US President Donald Trump's threat to unleash "fire and fury" on North Korea if Pyongyang continued to threaten Washington.

The US and North Korea's mutual threats have raised concerns about a miscalculation that could have catastrophic consequences for the Korean Peninsula and the region. China and many other countries have called for calm. South Korean President Moon Jae-in said on August 14 that another war on the Korean Peninsula should not happen.
