North Korea has issued a dire warning as it prepares to face further sanctions.
North Korea is facing a new round of sanctions in an effort to curb its nuclear program.
Just last week, North Korea announced that it finally had the ability to mount a nuclear warhead on a missile, surprising and confusing South Korea and Western countries.
Japan, South Korea and the United States are preparing to impose a new round of sanctions, blocking the financial resources of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un to "make it difficult" for Pyongyang to develop nuclear weapons.
Accordingly, just a few hours before the meetings of the US, Japan and South Korea held in the capital Seoul on December 13, North Korea issued their dire warning.
The Rodong Sinmun newspaper of the Workers' Party of Korea announced on December 13 that the country will continue its military-first policy and that Pyongyang's next moves in the next few days will "terrify all enemies."
"We will strike first like a gust of wind to win the final victory, firmly maintaining Songun (military-first policy) despite sanctions. The world will see a series of new moves that will strike fear into all enemies in the coming days," the Rodong newspaper reported.
The newspaper also warned that it would make the US "suffer shame before the international community".
North Korea's warning came after the North Korean leader personally oversaw a military drill that simulated an attack on the South Korean presidential palace.
In response to the latest warning from North Korea, South Korean government representative Kim Hong-kyun said that the three allied countries (US, Japan, South Korea) have reaffirmed their commitment to cooperate with each other to deal with Pyongyang.
"We shared the common view that it is more important than ever to continue to maintain close cooperation among the three countries. We also agreed to be fully prepared for all possibilities including more drastic provocations from North Korea," Yonhap news agency quoted Mr. Kim Hong-kyun.
A South Korean government representative strongly warned that North Korea is on a path of "self-destruction" unless it accepts denuclearization.
Meanwhile, US negotiator Joseph Yun stressed that allies are ready to negotiate "seriously" with North Korea, but so far there has been no sign that Pyongyang accepts preconditions leading to dialogue.
