SheetJoongang IlbSouth Korea's Yonhap News Agency quoted an unnamed diplomatic source as saying that the proposal to hold a third summit in Pyongyang was raised by North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in a second letter sent to US President Donald Trump in mid-August.

The White House, the US State Department and the North Korean delegation to the United Nations have not commented on this information.

The leaders of the United States and North Korea have met three times since June 2018 to discuss ways to resolve the crisis surrounding Pyongyang's nuclear and ballistic missile programs. However, the negotiations between the two countries remain deadlocked and North Korea has recently conducted a series of short-range missile tests.
