'King Kong' recruits Ninh Binh cheo actors as extras

In addition to choosing more than 40 Vietnamese supporting actors, the Hollywood blockbuster also spent money to repair roads, build dams, and compensate for damages during more than two weeks of filming in Ninh Binh.

On the afternoon of February 26, the Kong: Skull Island film crew arrived in Ninh Binh after completing three days of filming in Quang Binh. According to the schedule, the crew will film here for two weeks from February 27 to March 15. The chosen setting includes a 2-hectare valley inside the Trang An scenic complex (between Tam Coc - Bich Dong and Trang An boat landing area) and the Van Long lagoon tourist area.

Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts chose more than 40 Vietnamese extras for the film.

Mr. Bui Van Manh, Deputy Director of Trang An Landscape Management Board, said: "The film set inside the landscape is almost completed. About 20 bamboo huts have been built. This will be an Asian village attacked by King Kong. The film crew recruited Vietnamese actors to play extras, playing the role of villagers. There are about 40 - 60 participants, including elderly people and Cheo artists of the province."

While the land used for the film set was lent to the crew by the Trang An tourist area for free, the crew spent money on road repairs and filming services. In addition, director Jordan Vogt-Roberts requested the construction of a dam to keep the Van Long lagoon full of water.

Van Long Lagoon is one of two settings in Ninh Binh of the blockbuster "Kong: Skull Island".

Mr. Tran Xuan Quang - Head of Van Long tourist station - shared: "We have built dams many times to keep Van Long lagoon full of water as requested by the director. Part of the lagoon used to be rice fields of the people. The film crew provided financial support to households whose rice fields were flooded."

During filming days, Trang An and Van Long lagoon will arrange for tourists to visit on other routes so as not to affect the schedule.
