(Baonghean.vn) - Mr. Truong Van Hoa in Hoi Son commune (Anh Son) has successfully invested in a model of growing melons using Israeli technology, bringing in high and stable income. Below are the techniques and experiences that Mr. Hoa wants to share.

Mr. Truong Van Hoa invested in building a system of 2 net houses in hamlet 2, Hoi Son commune to grow melons and clean vegetables and fruits using Israeli technology. According to him, net houses help reduce the impact of weather on crops and prevent pests from damaging plants. Planting plants using this technology does not require soil but uses a substrate, a mixture of coconut fiber and peanut shells to replace soil. Plants are provided with nutrients using hydroponic solutions. |
Hydroponic solutionis organic fertilizer mixed with water in a certain ratio to provide nutrients for plants through a drip irrigation system. The growing medium for growing melons includes coconut fiber and cow manure in a ratio of 7:3. Cow manure needs to be composted with trichoderma microorganisms, then dried to remove mold and pests before mixing with coconut fiber. |
Coconut fiber is processed in the following way:Mix well with lime powder in water at a ratio of 10 kg of lime/100 kg of coconut fiber and soak for 2-3 days. Drain all the lime water until the water is clear, then mix phosphate salt KH2PO4 into clean water at a ratio of 2 kg/100 kg of coconut fiber and soak for another 3 days, drain and use. In addition, another better substrate that can replace coconut fiber is peanut shells (crushed to a size of 1.2 mm), mixed with cow dung at a ratio of 4:1. |
How to prepare hydroponic solution:Mix fertilizers in tanks in certain proportions depending on each type of plant. Note that there should be at least 3 tanks and each type of calcium and phosphorus must be stored separately because if mixed together, these two types will cause precipitation and clog the pipes. Watering melon plants includes 13 types of water-soluble fertilizers. |
For melons, mix fertilizer at a rate of about 800 milligrams/1 liter of water for newly planted plants; 1,200 milligrams/1 liter of water when the fruit sets and matures; regularly monitor EC (soil electrical conductivity) and pH levels with a handheld meter. The density of melon planting is about 2,500 - 2,800 plants/1,000m2. |
How to incubate:About 3,000 seeds/50 trays (66-hole type). Sowing medium includes 50% coconut fiber + 50% clean soil (treated soil). Mix the seed soaking water in the ratio of 2 boiling: 3 cold, soak for 3.5 - 4 hours; then pour it out, put it in a clean cloth, hang it in a cool place for 1 day and 1 night, then sow the seeds and water 4 times/day. After 10-12 days, plant it. When the plant has 1 leaf, spray Growmore 30-10-10 foliar fertilizer, concentration 1 g/1 liter of water. When the plant has 2 leaves and the 3rd shoot comes out, plant it in a growing medium bag. |

During flowering, the tree needs to be pollinated by honeybees or by hand. Do this every day until all the trees bear fruit. But the most effective is to leave only one fruit on the tree. The selected fruit should be about 60 - 70cm from the base, with even skin, no mottled color, no worms, no scars. When the tree is 45 days old, cut off the leaves at the base. Cut 4-6 leaves, except for the leaves on the branches with fruit, do not cut close to the trunk and leave about 20 - 22 leaves on the main trunk until harvest. |
