The innovation to produce smart glasses Oton Glass has been in development since 2012. When operating the glasses are similar to the translation software Google Translate, also having the ability to take photos and convert them into voice.

Users wearing glasses simply glance at text or images and have them converted into speech.

But to use that app, users still have to pull out their phones and swipe through text, whereas smart glasses can be accessed with a glance. The initial fundraising goal is $93,500 to mass produce the glasses, which will sell for about $47 per pair.

To date, Oton Glass has raised $11,573 on Campfire, reaching 12% of its original goal. Most recently, the project placed third in the James Dyson Invention Award in 2016.

Considered the Japanese Kickstarter version, the product is sophisticatedly designed with two compact cameras and headphones on both sides. Half of the lens is a mirror that reflects the user's eyes to track eye movements.

As the user looks at the text, the camera captures the image and transmits it to a dedicated Raspberry cloud system for analysis and then converts it into speech played through the headset.

However, if the system cannot read the text, a remote operator will solve the problem by decoding the text. This can be a bit inconvenient. The company is currently working on a solution to this problem.
