Kobane is no longer on the verge of falling.
On October 23, US officials said that an attempt by the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS) to seize the Syrian border city of Kobane had been thwarted and that Kurdish fighters were likely to gain control with the help of US fighter jets.

An unnamed defense official at the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said that the front lines between ISIS and Kurdish forces had remained stationary for more than a week and that "the Kurdish defenders... should be able to hold their ground."
Another unnamed official also said that it would only take a few months, not years, for the Iraqi army to launch a large-scale offensive against IS to retake territories occupied by the jihadist group.
