Three officials disciplined for allowing illegal samu logging to occur.
(Baonghean.vn) - Three officials from the Na Ngoi - Nam Can Forest Management and Protection Station (Ky Son district) have been disciplined for their involvement in the illegal logging of 36 oil palm trees in February 2017.
Previously, on February 22, 2017, authorities discovered 36 oil palm trees (belonging to Group 1 in the List of Vietnamese Timber Groups), equivalent to approximately 139 cubic meters of timber, that had been illegally felled in Huoi Nhao village, Nam Can commune, Ky Son district. The incident occurred in the forest area managed by the Nam Can - Na Ngoi Forest Protection and Management Station, under the Ky Son Protective Forest Management Board.

Immediately after discovering the incident, the Ky Son Protective Forest Management Board held a meeting and disciplined three officials of the Nam Can - Na Ngoi Forest Protection and Management Station for allowing deforestation to occur in the forest area under their management, said Mr. Cao Van Quynh, Head of the Ky Son Protective Forest Management Board.
Accordingly, the disciplinary council dismissed Pham Van Tinh, Head of the Nam Can - Na Ngoi Forest Management and Protection Station; two other officials, Luong Vinh Phuc and Truong Van Sang, received a reprimand.
"After the inspection team from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development concluded that the disciplinary measures against Mr. Phuc and Mr. Sang were too lenient compared to the severity of their violations, they upgraded the disciplinary action from reprimand to warning. As for Mr. Cao Van Quynh - Head of the Ky Son Protective Forest Management Board - who bears joint responsibility, he is awaiting disciplinary action from the Disciplinary Council of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in early April," added Mr. Trinh Van Thanh, Head of the Personnel and Organization Department of the Nghe An Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
It is known that the Nam Can - Na Ngoi forest protection management station has 5 staff members, managing 40,000 hectares of forest. After Mr. Pham Van Tinh was dismissed, the Ky Son Protective Forest Management Board transferred an officer from the Technical Department to replace him.
