Disciplinary action against 4 former leaders for violations related to Formosa case

Former Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Nguyen Minh Quang, two former deputy ministers of the ministry, Nguyen Thai Lai and Bui Cach Tuyen, and former chairman of Ha Tinh Vo Kim Cu were disciplined at the same time.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Quang, Nguyen Thai Lai, Bui Cach Tuyen and Vo Kim Cu (clockwise) all received discipline related to Formosa's violations.

Along with the decision to dismiss Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Ho Thi Kim Thoa, today, August 16, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc also signed a series of decisions to discipline officials.

Specifically, in Decision 1199/QD-TTg, the Prime Minister decided to discipline Mr. Nguyen Minh Quang - former Minister of Natural Resources and Environment for the 2011-2016 term with a warning.

In Decision 1201/QD-TTg and Decision 1202/QD-TTg, the Prime Minister decided to discipline Mr. Nguyen Thai Lai and Mr. Bui Cach Tuyen by removing their status as former Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment for the 2011-2015 period.

In Decision 1200/QD-TTg, the Prime Minister decided to discipline Mr. Vo Kim Cu by removing his position as former Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ha Tinh province for the 2005-2010 term and former Chairman of the People's Committee of Ha Tinh province for the 2010-2015 term.

These disciplinary decisions are due to violations related to the Formosa Ha Tinh project that caused a very serious environmental incident in 4 central provinces in 2016.
