Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the first victory of the army and people of Vinh City.

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of August 4th, in Vinh City, the Vinh City Party Committee, People's Council, and People's Committee solemnly organized a ceremony to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first victory of the Vinh City army and people against the destructive war waged by the US imperialists.

Attending the ceremony were comrades Nguyen Xuan Duong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Ngo Manh Ha - Director of the Army Air Defense Department; Colonel Tran Vo Dung - Head of Political Affairs of Military Region 4; comrades in the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Vinh City Party Committee, provincial and city-level agencies and organizations; veteran revolutionaries, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, Heroes of the Armed Forces, Labor Heroes, former leaders, commanders, and soldiers of air defense units fighting in Vinh City and Military Region 4; representatives of liaison committees and historical witnesses who directly fought on August 5, 1964; and air defense and air force units in Military Region 4.

Prior to the commemoration ceremony, delegates laid flowers and offered incense at the statue of President Ho Chi Minh and the observation tower on Quyet Mountain.

The event began with an epic art performance by the Vinh City Cultural Center, celebrating the heroic national traditions of our army and people in the cause of defending the homeland.

Comrade Nguyen Xuan Sinh - Chairman of the Vinh City People's Committee - delivered a speech at the commemoration ceremony. The speech highlighted the event 50 years ago (August 5, 1964), when the army and people of Vinh City, along with the rest of the country, bravely won the first glorious battle, marking the beginning of brilliant victories in the fight against the destructive war waged by the invading American imperialists against North Vietnam. On the very first day of fighting the Americans, Vinh City saw many examples of courageous and tenacious fighting, contributing to the victory of the first battle... As a result of the first battle against the Americans, the army and people of Vinh City shot down 3 aircraft, contributing to the total of 8 aircraft shot down by North Vietnam on that historic day of August 5, 1964.

Colonel Hoang Thuoc - former squad leader of Regiment 280 - participated in the first battle.

A representative of the youth of Vinh City expressed gratitude for the immense contributions of the older generation who achieved glorious victories, and pledged that today's youth would dedicate all their efforts to continuing the tradition of building their homeland and protecting the territorial integrity of the Fatherland.
