On the occasion of the 69th anniversary of the Vietnam Youth Union's traditional day (October 15, 1956 - October 15, 2025), Nghe An Newspaper, Radio and Television had a conversation with comrade Nguyen Thi Phuong Thuy - Member of the Provincial Party Executive Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, Chairman of the Vietnam Youth Union of Nghe An province.

PV:Amidst the turbulent flow of the digital age with countless intertwined opportunities and challenges, how do you think Nghe An youth have promoted their strengths?
Comrade Nguyen Thi Phuong Thuy:It is true that the world is changing with the explosion of artificial intelligence and science and technology. Along with that, our country is facing a historic opportunity, implementing breakthrough solutions such as restructuring the apparatus, perfecting institutions, innovating the growth model... to pave the way for a new era - the era of national development.
On that journey, it can be affirmed that: Vietnamese youth in general and Nghe An youth in particular have been gradually asserting their leading role, especially in areas such as creative startups and international integration. Many young people today not only start businesses in their homeland but also boldly reach out to the world. Typically, the GoStream software founding project of CEO Nghiem Tien Vien has made its mark by becoming the Champion of the Techfest 2020 National Startup Competition and representing Vietnam to attend the Startup World Cup 2021 in the US.
Up to now, the whole province has 1,575 youth economic models, 20 "Youth Economic Development" clubs, 17 youth cooperative models and 57 groups. These models are operating effectively, gradually creating jobs for thousands of local workers, making an important contribution to the economic development of the whole province.
In Nghe An youth today, "Nghe quality" is clearly shown through the tradition of studiousness, the will to rise up and the desire to assert themselves. Many young people have made their mark in national and international competitions for excellent students. At the same time, they have won high prizes in scientific and technical innovation competitions, specialized Olympic competitions and young scientific research awards. Many young people coming from their hometown schools have received prestigious scholarships abroad and after graduation have returned to contribute to their homeland. These achievements not only affirm the intelligence and bravery of Nghe An youth, but also continue the studious tradition of previous generations.
A special thing is that the programs accompanying the youth have contributed to creating an environment for training and maturing for the young generation, contributing to orienting the values of a beautiful and useful life. The clearest evidence is the time when Nghe An had to endure severe storms and floods. Although the families of many union members and youths also suffered losses, they pioneered the establishment of more than 400 youth volunteer teams to participate in supporting people to overcome the consequences of natural disasters.
Many young people are also the bridge to bring thousands of gifts, necessities, warm clothes, and books to people and students in areas heavily affected by storms and floods, demonstrating the spirit of volunteerism and sharing for the community of Nghe An youth today.
PV:The biggest challenge for young people in the new era is not only work or skills, but also thinking and courage. Can you share specific stories where young people have overcome their own limits to create achievements that spread throughout the community?
Comrade Nguyen Thi Phuong Thuy:I completely agree that the biggest challenge for young people in the new era is not only about work or skills, but more deeply about thinking and courage, the ability to stand firm, dare to be different and dare to take responsibility for their choices.
In the age of technology, when opportunities and challenges come at the same time, when everything changes so quickly, courage is the "compass" that helps young people keep their direction and maintain their core values.
And I am very proud that in Nghe An, there are many young people who have demonstrated that through beautiful and inspiring stories. One can mention Nguyen Khac Cuong (born in 1986) - a son of Truong Vinh ward. Born with many defective legs, poor health and a childhood full of inferiority and loneliness. But it was in those seemingly difficult days that he learned to stand up, chose to live positively and contribute with a heart full of love. He studied and graduated from university, and devoted himself to teaching children at the shelter he founded for autistic and slow-developing children.
Besides teaching, he is also an active leader in the Youth Union, founding and leading the social activity organization “Youth for the community of Nghe An 37”. For the past 15 years, he and volunteers have traveled all over Nghe An, bringing love to those in difficult circumstances. Each year, the organization gives from 30 to 70 million VND to charity programs.
These are living proofs of the courage and intelligence of Nghe An youth today.
PV:After the merger and streamlining, many opinions say that this is both an opportunity and a challenge. In your opinion, how should young people adapt to avoid being "left behind" and still make the most of the opportunity?
Comrade Nguyen Thi Phuong Thuy:The merger in the past time is a correct policy, demonstrating the spirit of innovation of the political system and in line with the requirements of the new era. This is truly both an opportunity and a challenge for the Youth Union and each member and youth.
The opportunity lies in the fact that the merger process helps us to combine resources and synchronize leadership, thereby creating a greater combined strength to care for and support young people. But the challenge is not small, which is how to help young people quickly adapt to the new model, without "gaps" in the organization or confusion in the direction of activities.
In order for the new generation of youth to not be “left behind”, we focus on implementing 4 breakthrough tasks: Breakthrough in education; Breakthrough in methods and ways to be the core to connect and gather youth; Breakthrough in revolutionary action movements and breakthrough in building organizations, strong in organization, flexible in methods.
Thereby, it has created motivation for Nghe An youth not only to adapt quickly but also to pioneer in the new era, affirming their role and desire to contribute.
That dedication was clearly demonstrated when last year, Nghe An youth established nearly 200 youth volunteer teams to support the government and people in implementing administrative procedures, supporting digital capacity building for 104,178 youth and people. In the new rural construction, Youth Union and Association organizations participated in renovating and renewing rural traffic routes, with a total value of 1 billion 408 million VND; participated in eliminating 49 temporary and dilapidated houses with a total value of more than 1 billion 720 million VND. In addition, the youth organized 93 science and technology transfer activities attracting 7,020 youth to participate. Each movement, each action is gradually spreading more and more deeply and effectively.
PV: As Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union, what challenges do you want to pose to Nghe An youth in the next 5 years, so that they can prove their mettle, creativity and daring?
Comrade Nguyen Thi Phuong Thuy:As Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union and Chairman of the Provincial Vietnam Youth Union, I am well aware that Nghe An youth carry revolutionary blood, a tradition of studiousness, diligence and aspiration to rise up.
However, in the new context, we need a stronger transformation to truly become a pioneering force, worthy of the development of our province in the spirit of Resolution No. 39-NQ/TW dated July 18, 2023 of the Politburo on building and developing Nghe An to 2030, with a vision to 2045.

Therefore, if given the opportunity, I will boldly set the challenge "Nghe An Youth - creating a digital future for the homeland" - a challenge that requires each young person to transform from "beneficiary" to "creator", from a waiting mindset to proactive and creative action right on the land of Nghe An, rich in tradition.
In the next 5 years, I hope that each member and youth of Nghe An will demonstrate their mettle - creativity - dedication and together realize the 3 pillars: Pioneering digital transformation - Each youth is a proactive digital citizen; Pioneering "green" and sustainable startups; Preserving and spreading the cultural identity of Nghe An in the digital age.
I believe that, when daring to step out of their comfort zone and conquer those specific challenges, Nghe An youth will affirm their position and contribute worthily to the goal of making Nghe An a fairly developed province of the country.
