For the past 70 years, under the leadership of the Party, President Ho Chi Minh, and the exceptionally talented military leader - General Vo Nguyen Giap, the Vietnam People's Army, together with the entire nation, has achieved great victories in the struggle for national liberation, the defense of the Fatherland, and the fulfillment of noble international obligations.
For the past 70 years, despite facing countless harsh challenges, the Vietnam People's Army has always demonstrated the character of a revolutionary army that originates from the people and fights for the people. Generations of officers and soldiers have achieved glorious victories that have illuminated the thousands of years of history of nation-building and national defense, worthy of the noble title of "Uncle Ho's Soldiers" and worthy of being called the heroic army of the heroic Vietnamese nation.
Today, the military is the core force in continuing to protect the independence, sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of the Fatherland; creatively and effectively implementing socio-economic development programs; and leading the way in disaster prevention and control, search and rescue operations; addressing the consequences of war; and effectively implementing policies supporting the military's rear areas.
The Party, the State, and the people place their full trust in the People's Army. Emphasizing the building of a strong and comprehensive army, capable of meeting the requirements of defense in peacetime and ready to win in any situation… these are important messages that President Truong Tan Sang delivered at the ceremony commemorating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army. A key point emphasized in the President's speech was the lesson from our ancestors: "Defend the country before it is in danger" – this can be considered both a lesson and a doctrine for the task of strengthening national defense and security.
