Celebrating the 85th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam

On the morning of February 2 in Hanoi, the Party Central Committee, the National Assembly, the President, the Government, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and Hanoi City solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate the 85th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3, 1930 - February 3, 2015).

Also attending the ceremony were comrades: Former General Secretaries Do Muoi, Le Kha Phieu, Nong Duc Manh; President Truong Tan Sang; former Presidents Le Duc Anh, Tran Duc Luong; Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung; National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung; former National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Van An; Politburo member, Standing member of the Secretariat Le Hong Anh; Politburo member, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Nguyen Thien Nhan; Politburo member, Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Pham Quang Nghi; along with many leaders, former leaders of the Party and State; representatives of leaders of central and Hanoi city departments, ministries, branches, mass organizations; veteran revolutionary cadres, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, Heroes of Labor; representatives of the Diplomatic Corps; and numerous representatives of all walks of life and armed forces of the Capital.

The ceremony began with a special art program, with dances and songs imbued with love for the homeland, pride and infinite gratitude to the Party and beloved Uncle Ho, expressing determination and solidarity under the Party's leadership, firmly moving forward on the path of innovation, building and defending the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland.

In his commemorative speech, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong reviewed the process of birth, training, dedication and growth of the Communist Party of Vietnam, highlighting the great historical significance of the event on February 3, 1930, when the Communist Party of Vietnam was officially established. From then on, our country's revolution had the right direction, and the Communist Party of Vietnam truly became the leader and organizer of all victories of our country's revolution. The birth of the Communist Party of Vietnam was a great turning point in the history of our country's revolution, marking a brilliant milestone on the path of development of our nation. Over the past 85 years, although the path to progress has been winding and complicated at times, although our Party has sometimes made shortcomings and mistakes, thanks to its steadfast character, true modesty, and openness to learning, our Party has seriously self-criticized and corrected its shortcomings, and has been trusted and supported by the people. Therefore, the Party has led the Vietnamese revolution to overcome all difficulties and challenges, going from one victory to another, unstoppable by any force. Our people, under the leadership of the Party, have created miracles in the 20th century, the pinnacle of which was the victory of the August Revolution in 1945; the victory of the resistance wars to liberate the nation and defend the Fatherland; the victory of the renovation process, steadily advancing towards socialism.

The General Secretary was moved to point out: Looking back at the glorious struggle of our Party over the past 85 years, recalling the difficulties, hardships, boundless sacrifices and glorious victories that our people have achieved under the leadership of the Party, we cherish the past even more, cherish and preserve the achievements of the revolution, and are more deeply and infinitely grateful for the immense merits of our beloved President Ho Chi Minh; we understand, love and are more proud of our nation - a heroic, intelligent and creative nation; we are proud of our Party - the glorious Communist Party of Vietnam, wholeheartedly fighting and sacrificing for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, for the happiness of the people.

The General Secretary affirmed: The rich practice of the Vietnamese revolution over the past 85 years has proven that the correct and wise leadership of the Party is the leading factor determining all victories of our country's revolution; at the same time, in the process of leading the revolution, our Party has been tempered, tested and constantly matured, gaining experience to become increasingly worthy of its role and mission of leading the revolution, worthy of the people's trust. In Vietnam, there is no other political force, other than the Communist Party of Vietnam, that has enough mettle, intelligence, experience, prestige and ability to lead the country to overcome all difficulties and arduous challenges to bring the nation to the shore of glory. And also in that process, our Party has accumulated and drawn many valuable lessons, forging glorious traditions that today we have the responsibility to strive to preserve and promote.

The General Secretary pointed out: Currently, our entire Party, people and army are striving to implement the Party Platform and the State Constitution, comprehensively and synchronously promoting the cause of innovation, industrialization, modernization, developing a socialist-oriented market economy, opening up and integrating into the world, and carrying out the two strategic tasks of building and firmly defending the socialist Fatherland, for the goal of a rich people, a strong country, democracy, equality and civilization. The international context and the domestic situation, in addition to favorable aspects and opportunities, also have many intertwined difficulties and challenges. That situation requires our entire Party, people and army, more than ever, to promote the patriotic and revolutionary tradition, the spirit of solidarity and responsibility, and strive to overcome all difficulties and challenges, to build our Fatherland to become more and more dignified and beautiful.

The General Secretary emphasized: In the past time, our Party has devoted a lot of time and effort to Party building, considering Party building a key task. Recently, the entire Party has carried out a campaign to build and rectify the Party in the spirit of the Resolution of the 4th Central Committee of the 11th tenure, achieving important initial results and experiences, contributing to preventing and pushing back negative factors, improving the leadership capacity and fighting strength of the Party. However, there is still much work to be done in Party building; the general direction of Party building and rectification today is to continue to promote good traditions, maintain and strengthen the revolutionary nature and vanguard role of the Party, build a Party that is truly clean and strong in terms of politics, ideology, moral qualities, organization, cadres, innovate leadership methods, strengthen the connection between the Party and the people, ensuring that the Party is capable of leading the country's cause to constantly develop.

This year we celebrate the Party's founding anniversary at a time when our country has undergone nearly 30 years of renovation. This is an important historical milestone in the development of our country, marking the maturity in all aspects of our Party, State and people. Renovation has revolutionary stature and significance, is a process of profound, comprehensive and radical transformation, and is a great cause of the entire Party and people. Overall, after nearly 30 years of renovation, our country has achieved great achievements of historical significance. From a poor and backward country, suffering heavy consequences of many years of war, and being besieged and embargoed, Vietnam has overcome to develop its economy quite rapidly towards industrialization, modernization, and building a socialist-oriented market economy. The nation's overall strength has increased significantly, creating new positions and forces for the country to continue moving forward with good prospects.

2015 is the final year of implementing the Resolution of the 11th Party Congress, the 5-year Socio-Economic Development Plan 2011 - 2015; the mid-term year of implementing the 10-year Socio-Economic Development Strategy; the year of organizing Party Congresses at all levels towards the 12th Party Congress; the year of many major national holidays... The international and domestic situation creates many opportunities and advantages but also poses many difficulties and challenges, requiring our entire Party, people and army to strive very hard and have great determination to successfully complete the tasks of 2015.

The General Secretary firmly believes that the Communist Party of Vietnam will successfully fulfill its important responsibility. Our entire Party, people and army will join hands, unite and strive to build a peaceful, independent, unified, democratic, prosperous and strong Vietnam, steadily advancing towards socialism.

At the ceremony, Party member Le Thien, 70 years of Party membership, representative of veteran revolutionary cadres and Party member Nguyen Thanh Ha, representative of the young generation spoke, expressing gratitude and pride in the glorious tradition of the Party, belief and determination to practice, strive, and steadfastly follow the path chosen by the Party and beloved Uncle Ho.
