Ky Son in pineapple season
Honey pineapple is a traditional crop of the Mong people in the mountainous district of Ky Son. This year's pineapple crop is bountiful and the price is good, so people are excited to harvest.
At this time, the family of Mrs. Va Y Tong, Block 3, Muong Xen town is busy in the pineapple harvest season. Mrs. Y Tong shared: This honey pineapple variety followed her family and Mong families from the highland communes of Huoi Tu, Muong Long when they settled in Muong Xen town. After planting a few dozen trees, seeing that the pineapple tree grew well, had high productivity, large, sweet fruits and sold at a good price, Mrs. Y Tong propagated and planted nearly 2 hectares, earning 250 to 300 million VND in the first 2 years, in the 3rd year due to the degeneration of the variety, the fruits were smaller, the selling price was also lower, earning only over 200 million VND.

The plump, beautiful pineapples were harvested and placed on the backs of the people going down to Muong Xen town. Smiles and joy were present on the faces of the people, because after a period of planting and caring, the pineapples were both in season, had good prices, and were easy to consume. Ms. Vu Y Mo, a resident of Block 1, Muong Xen town, shared: "I often buy this pineapple for use, the quality is excellent, the pineapple is very sweet, especially the honey pineapple grown in the communes near Muong Xen town".

According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Truong - Head of the Department of Agriculture of Ky Son district, the whole district currently has nearly 200 hectares of pineapple trees, concentrated in highland communes such as Huoi Tu, Muong Long, Tay Son, Nam Can and the surrounding area of Muong Xen town, with a yield of 10 to 12 quintals/ha. June and July are the main harvest seasons. With an average selling price of 10 to 30 thousand VND per fruit, depending on the size, pineapple growers in Ky Son district have a significant source of income. This is the motivation for people here to confidently expand the area of pineapple trees.
Sharing more about the plan to develop honey pineapple, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Truong shared: “Ky Son has a plan to expand the area of pineapple in areas with suitable climate conditions and will also make pineapple products an OCOP product of Ky Son district, which people are also very responsive to. In particular, Ky Son pineapple is honey pineapple, which is much sweeter than other types of pineapple.”

Honey pineapple is one of the traditional fruit varieties grown by the Mong ethnic people on their fields in the highlands. Currently, pineapple has become one of the main crops, bringing high economic value, contributing to increasing income for the people in the Ky Son highlands.
