(Baonghean.vn)- NBy applying the right technical process, passion fruit on Ky Son land is not only beautiful, delicious but also has a good price..

These days, more than 25 households of Mong ethnic people - members of the Youth Volunteer Team 10 in Na Ngoi happily enter the passion fruit harvest season. For many areas in the province, passion fruit is not a strange plant.

However, in Na Ngoi land, this is the first season that this plant has taken root and yielded good yields in both quality and quantity. It is worth mentioning that the market price of the products is also quite stable, reaching an average of 11,000 VND/kg, bringing great joy to the people.

According to Mr. Vuong Xuan Tru, the General Captain of the 10th Youth Volunteer Team, Na Ngoi is one of the coldest climate areas in Ky Son. Along with that, the sloping land makes it very difficult to cultivate crops. This is also the residential area of the Mong people, most of whose lives still face many difficulties and who have not boldly implemented new economic directions.

Although the clean vegetable growing model of the people has brought high production value in recent times, there are still many mountainous areas that have not been fully utilized, causing great waste of this resource.

Realizing that passion fruit is a species that can adapt well to the climate and soil conditions here, at the end of February, technical comrades and 25 Mong households in the Team tested planting nearly 150 passion fruit trees on the hillside area.

In recent days, the above area has yielded a harvest with outstanding fruit quality. On average, each fruit weighs 2 taels, the largest fruit to date is nearly 3.1 taels. Some trees yield over 70 fruits.

After the harvest, traders in the district bought the fruits at the source with prices ranging from 10,000 to 12,000 VND per kilogram. Since the beginning of the season, more than 900 kg of fruit has been exported to the market.

After the first successful crop, the Team and the people are planning to expand the planting area of this tree to 10 hectares in the whole commune.

Referring to passion fruit growing models in Ky Son area, Mr. Vi Hoe - Secretary of the District Party Committee said: "Since 2016, the district has been implementing experimental passion fruit growing for Mong people in Muong Long commune, Kho Mu people in My Ly commune, Thai people in Huoi Tu with a total area of over 3 hectares.

Through inspection, it was found that passion fruit trees in the area have been growing and developing very well, bringing in an income of over 90 million VND per hectare. The average yield per hectare is over 40 tons of fruit.

Learning from experiences from passion fruit growing areas where prices have dropped, the government has worked closely with the people to take care of the trees according to the correct process, so the trees have grown well in both appearance and quality, so the price has not been forced down.

Besides, the district has also linked with factories in the province to get a commitment of stable output for the trees.

Before the initial achievements obtained from passion fruit trees, the working delegation led by comrade Nguyen Dac Vinh, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, also had positive assessments of the above models.

Since then, the district has been gradually perfecting a plan to expand the area of passion fruit cultivation in the area, promising that this will be a long-term and stable economic development direction to help people increase production value.
