Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone's musical is up for major awards - 'Best Picture', 'Best Director' and 'Best Original Screenplay'.

On the morning of January 24 (Los Angeles local time), the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) announced the list of nominations for the 89th Oscar Awards. The musical film La La Land by director Damien Chazelle equaled Titanic's record by receiving 14 nominations, including most of the important categories such as "Best Picture", "Best Actor" (Ryan Gosling), "Best Actress" (Emma Stone) and "Best Director" (Damien Chazelle).

"La La Land" dominates the 89th Oscar nominations.

There are nine films nominated for Best Picture this year – Arrival, Fences, Hacksaw Ridge, Hell or High Water, Hidden Figures, La La Land, Lion, Manchester by the Sea and Moonlight. Two other potential contenders besides La La Land are Manchester by the Sea and Moonlight – an excellent coming-of-age story about a gay black man.

In the category of "Best Actress", Meryl Streep also set a new record with her 20th nomination for her role in the biopic Florence Foster Jenkins. Meanwhile, star Isabelle Hupbert of the French film - Elle - is also highly appreciated in the race for the golden statue along with the beauty Emma Stone of La La Land.

After two years of absence from acting categories, black actors made a spectacular comeback at this year's Oscars. The list of black stars nominated includes Mahershala Ali, Naomie Harris (Moonlight), Octavia Spencer (Hidden Figures), Ruth Negga, Denzel Washington and Viola Davis (Fences).

Asian Star -Dev Patel - also nominated for "Best Supporting Actor" for his role in Lion. This is a spectacular comeback for the actor who made a splash in the movie Slumdog Millionaire.

"Toni Erdmann" is nominated for "Best Foreign Language Film".

In the animated film category, Japan's Your Name surprisingly missed out on the final nomination list. Instead, The Red Turtle is competing withKubo and the Two Strings,Moana,My Life as a Zucchini andZootopia.

As expected, the German comedy that made a splash at Cannes - Toni Erdmann - is nominated for the "Best Foreign Language Film" category. The film competes with The Salesman (Iran), Land of Mine (Denmark), Tanna (Australia) and A Man Called Ove (Sweden) at the American Academy.

The 89th Oscar Awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on the night of February 26 (USA), or the morning of February 27 Vietnam time.
