Among those letters, there is a letter from prisoner Le Van Mien, father of murderer Le Van Luyen. As a father himself, Lieutenant Colonel Do Quang Huy somewhat understands Mr. Mien’s situation as he helped his criminal son conceal his crimes.

Father's pain

The case of Le Van Luyen murdering the entire family of the owner of Ngoc Bich gold shop occurred, Luyen was prosecuted for murder, robbery and dragged 6 family members into legal trouble. Among them, Mr. Le Van Mien, Luyen's father, was prosecuted and tried for "concealing a criminal".

At the trial of his son and other family members, Mr. Mien had to exclaim: "After knowing the truth, the defendant was in great pain..."

Mr. Mien was sentenced to 48 months in prison.

Regarding his rehabilitation at Tan Lap prison, Mr. Mien was worried about his criminal son who was serving a sentence in another prison and was burdened with the guilt of being a cold-blooded murderer.

Luckily for him, when he was re-educated at Tan Lap prison, he met compassionate prison officers who gave him the strength to reform himself.

Assigned to the kitchen team, Mr. Mien clearly remembers the times when Deputy Warden of the prison Do Quang Huy and other prison officers visited and encouraged him like family members.

Remembering the feelings of the officers at Tan Lap prison, on the day his sentence ended and he was able to return to society, Mr. Mien wanted to meet Lieutenant Colonel Do Quang Huy to say thank you, but he was hesitant.

Touching letter

Carrying the guilt of a prisoner, after much hesitation, Mr. Mien finally did not dare to meet Lieutenant Colonel Do Quang Huy to say thank you from the bottom of his heart.

Instead, he wrote a very touching letter to express his gratitude to the prison officer who had given him warm feelings during his days in prison.

Mr. Mien wrote: "Dear Huy, today the prisoner has finished his sentence and is returning to his family and society. I have a few things to tell you. First of all, let me send my best wishes to you and your family.

Dear friend, from birth to the end of life, everyone makes mistakes. No matter how big or small those mistakes are. My life is the same, because of those mistakes, my siblings and I had to face gossip and discrimination from society...

And fortunately, during the days of reform here, I met a kind-hearted officer like Ban, who gave me the strength to reform better.

Since I arrived at Tan Lap camp and was assigned to the camp’s kitchen team, I have been reformed for 6 months and 6 days. And I clearly remember the 3 times the Board and the officers visited the kitchen, all 3 times the Board asked about me and encouraged me like family members. Truly, the feelings the Board had for me were very deep.

Dear Ban, I really want to meet you to thank you for your affection for me, but I really hesitate a lot, not knowing whether I should or not... Today I finish my sentence and go home to my family, I really want to meet you to thank you, say goodbye to you, but I don't dare. So I wrote a few lines and asked Tien to send them to you.

And once again, let me thank you and what you have given me. These are the words from the bottom of my heart... No matter how many words of thanks I say, it is not enough. Before I leave Tan Lap, let me once again wish the whole Ban family happiness and good health."

Perhaps Mr. Mien could hardly imagine that his simple letters with scribbled but sincere handwriting warmed the heart of the police officer who had been attached to Tan Lap prison for 24 years.
